MG ZS EV Shipping Updates

My order is with Vanarama, a lease deal so probably different from yours but my point is that in February they told me the car would arrive on April 7th. It didn’t and they still haven’t explained why. They now say September (possibly), but I’ve stopped holding my breath.
With Vanarama we are all on the same boat 😶‍🌫️

Oh, well in that case they are likely justified to request the payment. My contract confirms if I’m paying cash it has to be paid 10/5 working days prior to the car being provided to me dependent on the method of payment. I would presume there is a delay in getting the transporter arranged to deliver the car to the dealer. I think one of the ships was also slightly delayed in getting into port and could have missed the transporter that was due to take it. If they have offered you a courtesy car they have offered a way for you to mitigate your loss whilst there is a small delay with the car arriving.
I haven't thought of transport problem which may well be the issue. Yet at the same time I think they should of had courtesy to inform me of that fact. As the saying go watch this space in the near future and let you know what happen next week as promised but no exact date yet.

So basically you lease it from a leasing company that's leasing it from another leasing company who presumably have bought the car from mg or they leasing it as well. Confusing or what🤔🤔🤔
I don't think that's the case, if you look on Vanaramas website there is a logo that states they are a leasing broker, not an actual lease company so I assume they are a broker that exlusivelu deals with one lease company, a lot like curry's will provide credit for a purchase but they don't actually do the loan, they act a a broker exclusively for one lender.

That's how I read it, vanarama do the sale, take a commission and deal with the actual lease company on your bahalf.

Yes, which is what I meant when I mentioned ’intermediary’.

Every lease I have had, the lease company ordered from the dealer, and the dealer contact you directly and deliver the car to you.

So none of the weirdness that we see here with Vanarama.

In most instances you’ve got final consumer (us) - lease co - financier - dealer - manufacturer.

+ from my convo with Vanarama is they have had some deliveries of MG5s but like the experiences in general, some expected, some were a surprise.
- is that they’ve had nil deliveries of the ZSEV and no ETA.

At this point, they said no expectation of the deals being cancelled or costs going up, but technically the contract does allow. In fairness, I’ve not paid a deposit and I can walk away at any point.

The only manufacturer I’ve heard as cancelling orders and cranking up prices is JLR. I’ve had two friends both had orders cancelled and the closest alternative is several £k over.

There isn’t a track record of doing this, and as the specs have changed from 1st Jul. I’m guessing MG would prefer to honour the deals and gets the cars out.

But who knows.

Like you, I haven’t paid anything for the car but it did cost me nearly £400 to upgrade the switch in my meter box for the charge point, which incidentally, the electrician said was totally unnecessary and if I cancel my order with Vanarama I will have to pay for the charge point which would be around £1000. So, they’ve got me tied in and I’ll just have to wait.

I'm sure the contract I have with the vanarama finance company states that only changes to the VAT rate can affect the monthly payment which makes sense.

The only caveat I would put on that is (and I am totally being devils advocate here), that totally makes sense for post delivery, but it's whether the contract allows for pre delivery changes (or even the contract stating it takes effect from the day of delivery, which would also allow for pricing changes.) I wouldn't have thought it would be the case but like I said just being devolved advocate and imagining what methods they could if they wanted....

Contract has been signed prior to ordering car. Home charge point installed as part of that contract. So shouldn't change.

It's unlikely unless his car in in Port from last delivery?
It arrived as promised. It had come in from Holland. Apparently MG send out to variouse ports in Europe as well for trans shipment. Mine must have been one as I had to change some of the settings from Dutch to English

Having never leased, this may sound stupid, but when you sign the lease contract do you state in said contract lease start date and if so what happens if you do not receive the car on time are you still obliged to pay the lease from that date.?

No to both.

Signed the lease in January. Other than a £300 arrangement fee I haven’t paid a penny.

I am also waiting on a ZS TROPHY LR, which was ordered from Vanarama at the beging of December 21. I have an email from them confirming the price will not change as I asked this explicitly. I am in some ways fortunate (as are others) to have agreed the contract prior to the reduction in the grant and the sharp price increase.

Also have the same situation with having paid out for a new switch and then had the EV charger installed.

Once we aware that there is more of a steady stream of new ZS EV’s being delivered across dealer networks and less sporadic as is now the case, then we will be able to tell if Vanarama have a wider problem.

Will have to keep paying for expensive fuel until then….
