MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

I assume if you driving motorway speed this will affect efficiency but also sound proofing as air going inside of tray? So if that issue get fixed your car would be probably a bit more quiet.
That could explain why some reviewers report the car as noisy at speed and some don't.

Thanks for the heads up on this, given that @ph79 & @jamesc83 came from the same batch / dealer I thought I'd check - mine is attched - its sagging about 1-2cm - mine is the smaller battery / & motor? (125kw) - I thought I'd jack it up for a better look - but couldn't find one in the boot  - only a can of gunk - now i know what that SoS button is for (which will be doubt stuck in middle of nowhere, without mobile coverage, when i need it! )

Best get booked in with the dealer, mines going in Monday now for this and oil check

My Trophy went in yesterday, for a screeching noise when turning right. As someone suggested, it was a stone, that shifted the guard slightly and was fowling slightly, nothing major.

Anyway, I asked them while I was there to check the tray and oil issue have many have reported.
Tray was fine, they removed all the bolts, they couldn’t get over how many, and how big the bolts were.
The oil issue was as many have reported, overfilled, they sorted that at the same time.

If your tray is fine, can you post a picture of it for comparison? I’ve only seen a couple of normal ones posted

AFAIK, the SOS button is for emergencies like if you crash or become ill etc not for breakdowns.

And here’s my underside. Utter shambles. Dealer informed.
Hard to tell I understand, but what do we thing is causing that bulge in that plastic under tray cover folks ???.
Is there something not fitted correctly UNDER the tray, causing it to bulge like that, or is it just missing a fastener in that location ?.
What is both more concerning and puzzling is how this did not get picked up on the PDI check prior to delivery ?.
Unless it HAS lost a fastener after it left the dealership of course.
It should be a simple fix but not expected this early in the cars life.
A few customers have reported missing or loose fasters also in the under tray.
Either not fitted correctly at the factory and how did they pass the quality inspection checks then.
Or the covers have been removed for some reason and never got refitted correctly ?.
It’s a strange situation alright.
Had the cars not been submitted for oil leak checks, then would owners be contacted their dealers anyway when the under tray dropped and was fouling on the tarmac I wonder ?.

No idea if these are the bulges everyone’s finding or not, One the Trophy & the other the SE. Without knowing the purpose of these it’s difficult to say if it’s a problem or not as they feel secure.

It is and mg confirmed to me at least it shouldn’t really be like that.

From what others have said, the undertray problem isn't something hanging down pushing on the tray, it is due to incorrect or misaligned fasteners causing it to bulge like that. We don't know if this is a robot or human that puts on the undertray.

I believe nobody knew it shouldn't be that shape, so dealers were assuming it was intended. Now they know it isn't. They should be checking for loose or obviously misaligned fasteners though.

I just put mine on ramps to have a better look, it looks like the tray has distorted post production. In that if you push up on it it does go flat, but wont stay due to the warping of the untertray. The undertray is quite flimsy, with no support / strength ribs (which is normal on combustion engine undertrays). So in my humble opinion, the part which the rear under tray attaches to (its touching it, if you push it flat) gets hot. The other thing that I noticed was that the 4 x 10mm hex bolts (with 25mm washers on), were quite loose (just over hand tight) - which didn't seem right - attached is a picture taken inside the undertray from the left rear wheel towards the right front, yellow circled is the offending (in my opinion) heat source, causing the distortion??

Sounds exactly like mine. The bolts and holes in the tray don’t line up and aren’t fully tightened. I think this might be a delayed fix as imo it probably needs a new tray. Has anybody else had one of these fixed yet? The only way I can see dealers being able to “fix” it will be to drill new holes in the tray.

Looks like MG might be taking the Tesla’s route of using their customers to do their final road testing development!.
To be fair, if all that I have is a dodgy under tray & a leak, in a brand new "development" model then I'll be very happy indeed. The MG4 is a replacement for my 170,000 mile Tiguan 170 sport. Back in 2008 it was the 1st one in the country, in the 1st 12 months i had all sorts of problems (the same one) related the the emmisions!! - then all of a sudden (after a software update?, at the dealers), they all stopped, and never had another problem (I'm going to keep it for the winter at least this year), its been faultless ever since! - Of course, it transpired that this engine was the new EA189 in 2008, and we all now know what they did (I never took it back to VW though for the recall ).
