I smart app

The dealership can and should do so before handing over the car if the previous owner has not. As for the private sales market up to the seller.....but at least you could go to a dealership with the relevant documents but will it be free?

It's the same app as is used for the ZS EV (and now the new MG5), so one would think this is something that has already been encountered?

checked and double checked. Multi users yes. New phone problems yes but not the same as Muz's, more to do with wrong passwords

Not knowing anything about the app, if you were to sell the car but not delete the app etc will you still be able to connect to the new owner's car?

Yes because nothing has changed unless app unbound and car factory reset hence my comment on private/not dealership purchases. It is up to the new owner in these circumstances to sort it out with the seller or a dealership.

The app
1/ It doesn't need the keys (mine have only been out my pocket to change battery in over 18 months) everything is app or keyless
2/ it is not geographical (at least in Europe)
3/ We do need to think about buying differently with app interface cars to ensure no residual ownership exists

Muz you tried your old phone before you sent it away and that could log in but no longer communicated with the car...is that correct. That was used to bind but still wouldn't work?

If so the only way forward may be to get the dealership to delete the bind (they can do it, think demonstrators etc. being moved on) and start the set up from scratch and the QR code should be visible.

It may well be another bug but how many new owners have changed phones to try it? Also we have not yet had anybody confirming more that one device works or anyone reporting problems when trying more than one device so we are still ????

The phone app should be a simple interface (API) with no details stored just command/receive capability. So if anything is going wrong it is almost guaranteed to be the server perhaps losing that VIN tie up.

All hypothesis of course

My old phone connected with the car with no issues, it's only the new phone that cannot connect.

I’d like to think, again with absolutely no prior knowledge that you must be able to factory reset in the car, which de-register all devices?

Sure MG can’t be the only manufacturer with an app? My worry is if a con person sells privately then turns up with their phone as the key and drives off with the car.

Wonder how it works with Tesla as your phone can be used a key there?

Not everyone is a law abiding honest soul.

Problem is the car app data is already held in an app server remote from the car. The vin stays with the car irrespective of a factory reset because it is linked to the esim and that reset does not refresh the remote server data. Sure it will wipe all linked devices and settings including bluetooth key but remote app registration data?

So yes you can factory reset and stop any impropriety but one strand may still exist that only a dealer can fix provided you have all the correct documentation, the app registration data

It's a nightmare with Tesla, it took me nearly 1 month to get access to my used Tesla providing all the relevant information to an unresponsive Tesla email address.

Hopefully resetting the car will remove the bind

The "bind" is with the account not the car hence the issue

To be honest the terminology doesn't help. I find bind doesn't help. What you are actually doing is using your phone to pair the car vin data to your app account data via a qr code in the initial set up. There is no lasting "bind" on a phone but there is on a paired account.

Picked up the MG4 two days ago. Since that time I cannot bind my phone (android) or my wife's phone (iPhone) to the car via the QR code. Anyone else had this trouble and what did you do? I'm getting a dynamic something or other error.
Hi. I picked up my car on Wednesday and couldn't bind my android phone or 2 others whilst the car was being handed over. Saturday and still can't bind. I get an error message when progressing to Login on my Phone after the QR code has scanned saying Service unavailable. The dealer raised this with MG and they were told the server was down. They've raised it again and say they'll get back to me on Monday. Will wait and see ????

I haven't got my car yet, so I haven't tried binding iSmart to it yet (Duh!), but I have set up my account on it ok, but does anyone else find that when attempting to enter a nickname (My Profile > My Information > Nickname) that it only displays a numeric keypad, no alphabet.
I am not a number! (anyone else old enough to remember that?) :)

I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Yes - it does, now. When I created my account it was with an earlier version of the app so I had no such issues.
