MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

If MG built flats 😱

does your car whistle between 40mph-60mph?
Not that I have noticed but i will be listening more carefully now. I did think of that when putting the post up, having noted comments by some other owners. In fact 80 mph spurt overtake the other day on M5 I thought was incredibly quiet.

Something similar actually happened to some flats built in my town, back before the beginning of time.
Because the wall panels were almost, but not quite symmetrical, some got installed upside down.
Luckily, the building inspector noticed before the tower was signed off.

What you are saying about the temp ranges probably explain why some members have had theirs crack and break off this winter
Leni: maybe: when whether forecasters give the daily max/min temperatures, those are usually taken from inside a box ('Stevenson screen', i.e. a louvred box) at 1.25 metres above ground. On a clear-sky polar-airmass night, a black tarmac surface may cool to a somewhat lower temperature than the quoted met office temperatures. If this area of tarmac is in a 'well' and there's little wind (quite likely in that weather pattern) to mix the airmass, the cold air will be denser and just sit there, chilling out; you might see five deg C or more lower than them bbc forecasts. Park yer motor over it and...
Some materials (don't know what the underpants are made of) have 'glass transition' temperatures just below zero C: bent undies cooled to the glass trans temp will not do well when subsequently loaded or walloped (even gently).
I expect the saic design team are working on it; the Chinese interior has much colder nights than we get in the UK...

Has anyone had a concusion from MG or any dealers regarding bulges in the undertray of MG4s. Got a bulge front and back, and dont know if a dealer would sort it out?

I thought I posted this in this thread, but I can't find it..
Anyway, this is from 20th Jan:

I'll try again in a month or so if we don't hear from elsewhere.

Got my car up on ramps today, took the undertray off to have a good look at it and to check for the oil leak.
Oil leak present but slight, bulge present but slight.

I'm not sure it's going to be a simple fix regarding the leading edge of the tray though.
The BMS seems to be external on these cars, housed in a 70 x 10cm alloy casing, the undertray bolts to this at its leading edge.
The casing sticks down by around 10mm when compared to the battery directly ahead of it so the two trays can never meet flush because of this.
There's also just too few fixings securing the tray to the BMS case. Really weird design decision IMO.

one-piece tray the best answer, maybe?
Possibly but I think the 2 piece just give ease of access.
If the front one was a little longer with a little step down on the leading edge, the back one could slide into the gap and it's front edge would be covered by the back edge of the big front tray. If that makes sense

Yep, an overlap would probably help a lot, that and more fixing points on the BMS casing, there's only two and they're well back from the front edge.
I have only a slight bulge towards the middle ( matron ) so I think I'll try a bit of light aluminium strip or similar while we wait for a possible solution from MG. Not holding breath

The rear tray bolts to the back edge of the battery pack, so there isn't the ability to have an overhang.

I was thinking of the back edge of the front panel overlapping, probably didn't describe it that well. If that is what your already describing then just ignore my last👍

You mean the rear undertray where is meets the rear diffuser?
