My Ownership Log: MG4 Trophy

But it sounds almost identical to every mk1 Nissan leaf. The only difference is it has a much greater variable speed and so slows down more as far as I can see….or should that be hear😜 so it sounds “chirpy”

Maybe the oil change was bs and they did something else to quiet the one mentioned. Maybe it was a thicker oil they added, maybe that will cause more issues, who knows.

The only thing I can say is my MG4 makes the noise but it is no louder than out Leaf always has been.
Yes, no idea about the Leaf, but yesterday I could hear the noise whilst travelling inside the car. Once outside and parked it was very loud, not acceptable to me.
The point of putting this on MG's radar (and that they have supposed 'fix') is that they are now aware of it, accept it as a known issue, which they cover under warranty and gives us owners a degree of protection should anything go awry with the device in future.
Also, those with the 'fix' have a peaceful summer of driving ahead.

Foxy makes a noise from her AC but my last car, which wasn't an EV made all sorts of noises: chugging, ticking, whirring under the bonnet and funny noises coming out of a round pipe at the back which always got louder when I pushed the accelerator harder! 😉

So I am happy that she is much quieter and if she wants to chitter chatter a little, well, that's ok with me.

The AC gets noisier the harder it works, so on these 24-30 deg C days I expect it to be noisy.
My 2020 ZS and my 2016 Prius were both much noisier than the MG4.
I can't hear the noise from inside the car as the fan blowing masks it.
I've only heard it from outside when I had turned pre-cool on.

That's a reference to mechanical belt driven AC pumps with clutches.
Electric AC pumps are a sealed unit driven by an electric motor inside.
I wouldn't think most of what's listed there applies to Electric AC.
Still relevant, mechanical driven or electrically driven, the noise is not as expected and not acceptable to me.
If others are happy with it, happy days. But mine is in for the fix.

@Rolfe this is an undertray bulge example (albeit quite minor compared to others) - picture taken looking back towards the rear wheels:

OK, I do have the problem. I need to take this to the appropriate thread I think.

I didn't realise that was still happening with the newer cars, yours is a decent scoop Rolfe, bit of a dirt trap come the mucky weather again.
MG have pretty much said they won't be replacing them I'm sure

Didn't think that was still happening with the newer cars

Others have had theirs replaced under warranty, so that sets the precedence. Mine is booked in to be replaced early July

Yes you can, i spray the frontage of the car between headlights because as someone said, the MG is a bug magnet due to no grill.

They also do a glass spray which works well. All used with a microfiber cloth

I just did the front of the car and it works pretty well. It was raining most of the night and the car had been sitting out in it, so I thought maybe everything was already softened enough to wipe off. But no, just wiping the wet paintwork with a cloth didn't do much.

So I tried the Supaguard, and the bugs were a lot easier to get off. It really was a flies' cemetery.

I thought maybe I was just noticing it more because of the light colour, whereas my Golf was a very dark blue. Why is it that the MG4 is a bug magnet then, and does this apply to all EVs?
