Tesla Supercharger Issue MG5 LR

My dealer has told me the update is a BCM update.
They are saying as it is not a recall it’s a chargeable update.
I am now started the debate on this as it seems daft I have to pay to fix an issue with the car.

I do agree that it should be updated for free by the dealer, but unless your dealer is the suppling dealer of the car and is willing to do it for free, then they are going to want paying for the work.
In that situation, I guess you have to ask yourself the following question 🙋🏻‍♂️.
Are you covering a lot of miles and therefore are charging via rapid units a lot on the move.
Or maybe you are unable to charge from home and have a non Tesla unit close to your home address and would like to take advantage of the cheaper charging tariffs over the competition?.
If so, I would be willing to pay IF it was that important and it could save the overall running costs.
If on the other hand you are a person that either rarely or never charges via a rapid unit, then what is the point TBH.
I have covered over 30,000 miles in nearly four years now, with both models of the ZS EV and never conducted a charge from a rapid charger in that time.
So, in my own personal situation I have adopted this approach:-
“Buy what you need and not what you want”.
I don’t consider paying for the non Tesla update to be a burning issue.
If things changed and it then became an issue, I would request the update at the same time as my annual service visit.
If I was asked to contribute to the cost, then I would pay if it was priced reasonably.

Let’s hope we manage to narrow it down lol. My dealer does seem to think it is the BCM but she is just reading what is on the screen in front of her.

Such a shame there is not clear answer on this. Let’s hope yours get sorted and then we will know.:)

You're absolutely right there are that many different combinations of letters all of which are of course abbreviations, of what I don’t know, and I think but I’m not sure that Kevin’s is the first to get a fix and his dealerships Service Manager has told him, it was an issue with the EVCC and as a service manager he should know.
I’m sure we all agree, it could even be a combination of things that's causing the issue but it needs to be sorted and fixed ASAP.

apparently MG are currently in the process of buying the rights to the Tesla chargers - i did point out some MG cars seem to work but thats what they were sticking with

When does yours go in? I am looking forward to hearing what happens :)

I hear you.

I am always of the mind why pay for something I will not use.

That said I am starting to do more long trips and have seen the Tesla charger (open to all) being better located and often available when others are not. I just don't like the idea of not having the option to use them when they may be the best option.

I am talking to the dealer who sold me the car so hoping they will work with me.

I am also looking forward to hearing back from Les's experience. I would hate to decide to pay for an update to find it is the wrong one lol

Hi simorgan. I too have just watched that video above with the subtitles and I was disappointed as when I looked at the thumbnail picture I assume it was going to be about charging on a Tesla supercharger but it has nothing to do with that at all, so I was gutted, anyhow in answer to your question my car had its first service 23/12/23 and nothing regarding updates for anything was done so I rebooked it for 10/01/24 last Thursday on the Wednesday 09/01/24 late in the afternoon I had a call to cancel, the Thursday appointment saying nothing was to be done until they had obtain permission from MG and they will call me next week or this week as it now, I will update all in this thread as soon as I hear anything further.
The good thing is this week we had a first I believe when Kevin Ellard from Bexleyheath had an an update done to his car on the EVCC ( Electric Vehicle Charge Controller I think it might stand for) but don’t quote me on that I’m not sure if that's right.

So after that Kevin managed to charge his car on a Supercharger from Tesla; great news so still I’m still waiting I’m sorry to say for mine to be updated I will see tomorrow if I can find anymore out.
Les.

I will ask my dealer about the Evcc update as well.

According to the post below, it's EV Communications Controller. I don't know how authoritative this is. And it's for the ZS EV.
