What next? Remove the free MG Assist extension when buying an annual service from an MG dealership?
Unless they have just suddenly stopped I Wa given a price for a service plan 2 days ago from the dealership that I am going to go have a test drive at.

I believe Tesco (O2 network) are the only mobile still offering free roaming.... at this moment
That will figure out if they are using the O2 network. I’m with O2 and they haven’t removed the free roaming nor have Virgin Media as they are connected with O2.

My comment was in relation to MG backtracking on their service plan offering on their website despite it still being offered there. (Presumably) the same service plans are being offered by dealerships but at whatever prices they like (i.e. Higher).

Understood although when I looked yesterday at the website they were still showing that you could get a quote but because I haven’t got a registration number yet I couldn’t get any further as that was the first thing they were asking for.

See comment #245 :(
They are happy for us to pay a finance charge but don't want us to pay cash, it seems.

I've been looking again at the MG Service Plan (with free AA cover extension). My dealer originally quoted £472.53 for 3 years but it's available directly from MG for £358.16 for 3 years on the basis of driving less than 10,000 miles per year. I know many will say "But what do they need to do?" and I don't know, but the first and third are costed at 1 hour labour and £1 materials each. I guess its just a little lubrication and inspection of various items. The second is 1.5 hours labour and £28.57 parts. Labour rate is £97/hour, which may seem a lot but it's less than I've been paying the Audi dealership these last years. Year 4 is more expensive, if you want it; 1.5hours still but £49.11 parts. You can include any required MOTs at extra charge, I believe. I'm minded to take out a plan.
Can you still get this if you’ve had the car for a while?

Try completing the online form here.
I just tried and it offered a monthly payment plan with the 'management fee' being almost 10% of the initial price of the work. I'd rather pay a lump sum and receive a discount for paying in advance.

That’s the form I saw but because I haven’t got a registration number yet I couldn’t get any further with that to see how it compares with what the dealership sent us. I think the dealership one was for about £430 for 4 years but that didn’t include the MOT’s. I have had a think about it and I probably wouldn’t pay up front for the MOT’s just in case after the 2 years I end up handing the car back.

My intention is to keep the car but anything can happen in 2 years.

Many local councils provide an MOT service at sensible prices. Plus there’s no incentive for them to fail you and up-sell dubious repairs.

Our city council does this, but it comes with its own potential problems.
The biggest one being if it fails for a serious problem they can’t fix it and you’re not allowed to drive away.
I’ve not known anyone other than city taxi drivers use it.

Just been quoted £730 for 3 years service, including the first mot in 2026, for my nearly new Trophy that were picking up on Saturday. Does this seem reasonable to you? I think it’s not too bad, but I can only compare it to my old ICE car, which had got very expensive lately. I’d appreciate advice…thanks.

I paid £399 for exactly the same thing ... 3 years servicing and first MOT. But search this board - this question has been asked several times.

£730 is a rip off.
