Hi can any one advise please, are 72plate MG 5 EVs (latest version) designed to accept 150kw charger connection but then limit actual charge to vehicle max capacity ??

Reason for asking I have connected to a couple of 150kw chargers and all hell breaks loose in the car. It has a hissy fit, locks the charger in,disconnects the high voltage battery and takes some time to get back to normal. At the very least I would expect it to "fail safe". Not sure if have fault with my car or car not able to tolerate 150kw charge connection.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Given the fact that you able to plug into 150kw but get constrained to 50kw without major problems I think my car may have a technical issue

Could be corrosion in the charge port causing high resistance, the front position of the port means it's a bit prone to water getting in (especially if like me, you leave it open...)

22 plate 5LR here... Initially on a trip, I'll get up to 70Kw max which tails back down, after 10 or so minutes to around 55Kw... this is irrespective of time of day or temp...

I generally expect 35 minutes for 20% to 80% on a fast Gridserve... it's a regular trip I do and this is pretty repeatable...

What does the charger show the rate as going into the car? They rarely actually deliver 150kW.

Didn't get that far... Straight away error messages on charger, car yellow warning high volt battery shut down, charger cable lock and car unresonsive. Have to wait about 5 mins for to come back to normal

I don't public charge often but my FL Trophy seems happy with 150 and even higher chargers. It can't take more than about 85kW but it works OK. Have you had the charger update and/or the Tesla update?

No idea. But you all answered main question. Other MG 5 ev trophies accept a 150 kW charger but then limited a actual charge. Mine won't even start charging if connected to a 150. So think it's an issue with the car

We have a PFL LR and I find charge speeds to vary a lot with different chargers. Ionity seem to fly, other hit and miss. The fasted speed I have seen was 85Kw briefly, I generally see 45-55 depending on the weather. To be honest this is generally fast enough for the rare times I charge away from home.

For comparison I tested charged my Leaf when I first bought it last Nov and I got 17 kw! It has only been charged at home since!
