At last, a very high mileage ZS EV under the microscpe

So it's as easy as plugging in an OBD dongle, then. There you go, sorted. 🙂👍
Yeah, not so fast. The on board SOH number you'll get from plugging in an OBD reader is a "black box" estimate of the battery's real state of health.

Unless and until the workings of that "black box" are made transparent, I would treat the number it provides with a large grain of salt.

Not much point agonising over SoH as long as we are getting some decent mileage from the car ... If it's suddenly down by half, it would be obvious...

Re battery health, my last service of 020 mk1 ZS EV battery check came up with 90%.

After a full charge and balancing, my GOM says I have 144 miles in the tank..(!)

If I remember correctly, when the car was new, the GOM told me I had 165 miles left.

Thus. 144/165 equates to about 87% of the original battery capacity.

Do I need any more info than that?

Agree, if MG told you, your very high milage EV, was say 90% SoH. After say 3 years for example. Why would you not believe them? What have they got to gain,
by telling Porkies. 🤔🙄
Very high mileage MG BEVS - how they hold up: I've discovered several videos on YouTube from a couple James and Kate (husband and wife) who are involved with the EV supply/service company 'Cleveley' and who use a small fleet of MG5 estate cars and something they call 'the van' for parts delivery and mobile EV servicing. These vehicles do 1,000-1,500 miles PER WEEK (50-75k miles a year) hence the first of two YouTubes below 'first MoT at 152000 miles.'

The videos are professional but not slick, are less talking head and more 'here's what we found under the bonnet' in nature and delivered unemotionally woth no hype. What comes through repeatedly is (1) MG BEVs last a long time (2) they are v reliable (3) battery SOH is excellent to amazing. I drive a ZS ev so it is a surprise to see from videos of dashboards efficiencies of 4.2 to 4.7 miles per kwh.

FIRST MOT AT 152000 MILES

REPAIR OF 240000 MILE MG

I know James signed up to the forums, not sure he ever posted though. Didn't want to be inundated with questions or requests for servicing I expect.

That is really cool data. How did you log it/ make the graphs?
I use the Home Assistant SAIC MQTT Gateway (Python) add-on to gather data from both of our MGs, and I also have MQTT server inside of Home Assistant as well as InfluxDB and Grafana in Home Assistant to be able to chart such things. This is some info when I started:

The add-on details here:

It can also control various features of the cars, e.g. charging controls, locking/unlocking, aircon system.

That is very cool. I already use Home Assistant so will definitely set this up! Thanks
