Battery heating system

Does the battery heating system have a pump ?
I was just wondering, if you never used battery heating would the lack of movement affect the quality of the coolant and if it has a pump could it seize up through lack of use ?
I was thinking an occasional use of the system to stir it up might be good for it.

My Extended range, EU version, has a heat pump, as I'm informed

Heat pump is for the HVAC ... the battery and motor temperature control systems have "coolant" and are heated/cooled via PTC heaters/radiators, so they are entirely separate systems to the car's HVAC. (Or so I believe anyway).

It shows in the manual as the two coolant systems are one for the motor and the other for the battery.

Yes it has 2 pumps, one for the battery and one for the motor.If it got stuck I think the fuse would blow and there might be a service warning in the car too
And it's liquid, not oil, so it's less likely to get stuck

Not sure if my 23 plate Trophy LR (no rear screen wiper) has heat pumps. When I do a search on the 2 MG4 manuals I have I get 0 hits!

Battery heating is PTC and is around 7kW when running at full, I believe. Usually best used when charging ahead of a journey and most needed in an LFP battery when temps are near 3°C or less, that is when the cold battery will fail to give anything near full power and going up hills feels like going back to your ICE car in 5th gear. Alternatively some yoyo driving warms the battery too through use after a few minutes.

I assume he means water pumps to pump the coolant around the systems not heat pumps.

If you rapid charge your coolant pump will be activated. If you charge in cold weather your battery heater might kick in when battery is above a certain percentage.
There’s no need for you to do anything special in terms of maintaining its functionality.

I've yet to do a rapid charge with the 4, but now you mention it I remember it used to come on with my old ZS on a rapid charger.
