MG4 (2022-2025)
I notice the warranty T&C's have been modified so that it shows cars registered after 2025 have a 36 month warranty.

My flap is sticky or none sticky depending on what it feels like. It'll not open, then it won't stay closed. I'd seen on here before that it only has 12 months warranty. Looking at the T&C's they have increased it, but seems a little unfair it only applies from 2025.

CHARGING DOOR 12 months
CHARGING DOOR vehicle registered from 01/01/2025 36 months 60,000 miles

My car is 10 months old so have booked it in before 12 months just in case they want to give me the run around.

The provided warranty terms do not override the Consumer Rights Act, so a lot of parts that state only a 12 month warranty are things that will result in claims at the small claims court if they go wrong as it would indicate that they are not "fit for purpose" on a product that is designed to last many years.

OMG turns out I will need a new charging flap because of the sticky mechanism.

Madness that the full flap needs to be replaced, hence the car has to be painted on site for something so small. Bad design and no doubt will end with a flap sticking out like a sore thumb 🙈

The outer painted part of the flap clips onto the inner hinged section of the charging port.
If they change the whole mechanism, that is fitted from the inside of the vehicle.
Or is the outer cover broken or damaged that is stopping it closing or opening properly?

The flap outer skin has no visible damage. They said it comes as one unit so has to be painted and fitted. I said to them that’s madness it’s been designed that way and why can’t they just change out the mechanism.

As you say that does seem madness. I know from other threads that they have managed to remove the outer cover either on purpose or accidentally when it has become frozen and won't open or close, so it must be possible. Search for MG 4 frozen charging port or similar.
I know door handles if the switches break in them have to be painted.

With the flap open I think it is very easy. There is a black plastic tab on the inner side of the flap which pushes in and allows the outer skin to slide off in the direction away from the hinge.

How people managed it with the flap frozen shut is less obvious. A bit of experience and judicious brute force I think.

Slip the fingers in at the top behind the plastic outer cover, work your way around and eventually, one of the tabs will unclick, then it comes off easy.
I've given up putting the cover on, only to have to take it off again next time there is a dust cloud, or the planets align, or what ever causes it to stick.
I recommend using an o ring or something over the locking pin from the inside, to stop it falling out on the road when it has one of it's hissy fits that it doesn't want to close ....
I will have to score one out of my collection of MG4s and replace it, that "Charge flap door not closed warning chime for the first 5 kms and the warning covering the tyre pressures and odometer, gets very annoying after a while

I'd just remove the outer skin, give it to them to paint, then you can keep taking it back because the colour doesn't match, while using the original cover, till they get it right

When I find the time, being retired now, there is no such thing as "spare time" I won't to adapt a simply key cover outer on the charge door to allow the key to pass through and into the locking pin, a simple twist and the pin releases ......
A later project no doubt

I'll give it a go and see if I can remove it later.

'd rather give the dealer the unit in pieces and show them how i did it so they can separate the new flap and place my old colour plate on, rather than have a new flap sprayed and potentially stick out like a sore thumb.

Extracted the locking pin from the Silver MG4 and put it in the White 51 to get rid of that charge door light. Just plugged it into the locking part without attaching it to the black plastic inner door, that way I can open the charge door at any time because nothing locks it closed now.
Pumped all the tyres up to 45psi, can't remember what they were supposed to be at, but all the tyre indicators read the same now and are blue? I seem to remember they were green before the charge door warning thing hid them from view ....

It is interesting that all the engineers designing EVs spent all of their time removing buttons and creating screens but never considered that the fuel filler cap on an EV will be used many more times (potentially multiple times a day) on an EV compared to an ICE car and should probably be better engineered

Our flap wouldn't open the other day. I locked the car and unlocked it and it opened after that.

When it doesn't open it is hard to know if it is technique (try pushing somewhere else), a permanent issue, a temporary issue or the fact that it is unexpectedly locked.
