Charging issues MG ZS EV TROPHY

I have had the car a month now and cannot figure out how to charge! I have a Ohme charging box installed. I use the MG app to schedule charging but it’s very hit and miss. Sometimes it charges to 80% overnight as scheduled but other times, like last night it started at 32% at 8pm and by this morning at 7pm it had only charged to 56%. I have tried scheduling on the Ohme app and absolutely no luck at all! Often on the MG app I’ll press start charging and enter my pin but then after a bit of a whirling circle it’ll say failed, with no reason given??

Hi, are you trying to charge during the night on a cheap tariff?
I would turn the car timer off and let the Ohme do it, have you put your tariff into the Ohme app?

Ohme works well as long as all schedule charging is off on the car I just plug in and lock car and let ohme take over could not be easier

Also depending on your ohme set up and tariff I use smart charging as my tariff is 5p anytime so I tell my charger I need 80% charge by 2100 if it needs to it will pause my charging or delay it depending on time of day but the end result will be charged by 2100 if I plug in without enough time to finish it will just charge at 100% power

No I haven’t - as on a variable rate currently due to current energy crisis - is it worth uploading?

Ok I’ll turn off all schedules on MG app and within the car and try and use Ohme alone tonight - do you recommend using the Ohme app or the charging box screen itself? As I’ve tried so many ways and just not getting what I need . Thanks for taking the time to reply

As you've got no tariff to worry about if you have a ohme home pro after your plugged in there is 3 buttons one on the left is for max charge and it ignores any scheduling you may have set up

Open app tap 3 lines top left then tap my charger check that price caps is off

So an update - I switched off all scheduled charging on both app, car and Ohme app. I plugged in last night at 19.25 and made sure it was charging, with the target on Ohme for +80%. It said smart charging and had an estimated time of 06.27. However this morning there is only 50% (it started at 28%!), I’m really not sure why it’s stopping midway through the night. I looked at the Ohme app this morning and it had adjusted the finish time to midday today but it shouldn’t need more than 12 hours overnight to reach 80%

OK a trick with smart charging not that you need it as you can hit max charge I have to use smart charge for my 5p tariff any time
trick is to actually set the end time earlier so there is not enough time that way It automatically to the max speed

For your cost to say zero you don't have your tariff set up?

Hi, I have not set up my tariff as I’m on variable anyway (only recently got the car) I have switched off tariff caps etc yes. It is a home pro. I wonder tho, in regards to you saying to press max charge with a shorter end time - surely this is not a cost effective way of charging overnight? I want it to gradually charge over 12 hours overnight but even so I’m getting like 20% added. At max charge, would this not cost a fortune?

For a test I have plugged it in this morning at 8.30, set it on max charge and will see how I go

It says this currently! Even though it’s plugged in… says not charging. Ohme app is unclear if it is charging or not as looks like a straight line not an increase . Just no idea it seems like it has a mind of its own! I brought the end time much sooner so it was red and on max charge and I’ve looked now and it looks like it’s on the go slow again.

And just checked the actual box and it says error! So this must be what happens overnight

That's on smart charge and in the graph its paused the charging till about 1 ish

as for error give ohme a call there very friendly

Yeah I just don’t know why it switched to smart charging as I had it on max charge to test it. It has a mind of its own. I’ll call Ohme, thanks
