Cracks in rear light plastic - internal

Yes, mine is cracking, small thin cracks that we used to call crazing. The dealer said it was accident damage which I refused to accept. He photographed it said that he we submit it to MG. I wait for an answer.

Mine's a 23 plate - sent images to the dealer today and see what they say.
It's definitely stress cracking and looks like it's propagating from the bond of the inner and outer sections to me.

I have the 2025 mg hs. I have these cracks. Slowly getting worse. Noticed in week 1 of brand new car. Looks to be over stressed and temperature change. Dealership submitted warranty claim. Yet to hear.

Got an answer back from the dealers it went up to MG and they've agreed to a warranty repair replacement as of last Tuesday.
Annoyingly a bloody Tesco's van rear ended the car on the previous Saturday and despite a very broken bumper, boot and light bar it hasn't touched the light clusters.
MG still happy to replace them once I get it back.

As a matter of interest, do you guys with these cracks park with the rear of the car in the sun ?
I ask because the rear of mine is in the shade all day and I have no problems with cracks and only had a bit of the condensation in the lights problem when I perked with it in the sun for a couple of days. I'm thinking the heat and expansion may be something to do with the cracks.

I park outside my house and the rear light cluster is mostly in shade at all times.

Hi folks,

I was just about to plug my car in ready for a journey tomorrow, and I noticed two parts of the left rear brake plastic were damaged. The damage itself almost looks like a stone has come up and hit the light cluster but upon inspection the damage is internal and not external. See the picture attached, will be contacting the dealer to discuss options.

Has anyone with similar had repairs done under warranty or should I brace for monetary impact?

I emailed the dealership today , and they have no idea what happened but they've resent the warranty claim. That's 2 months wasted waiting mean time, the issue is now worse.

Gets some sun and some shade as it's parked on the drive.
I've had the condensation thing a little but parking the car in UK weather conditions shouldn't result in cracked light clusters when it less than 2 years old!
Goes in this week to get them changed.

You don't want to buy the rear lights, our dealer quoted £385 each supplied as a part and that will be plus VAT and then fitting, so well over £500 for what is the shonkyest plastic on the car. Bit off topic I know as this wasn't due to stress cracks, but a concrete post that drove into the back of us When I removed the old light, I could not believe how much water was in there, possibly two litres, very heavy. Just for ref expect to pay £200 as a UK salvage part and a 5 minute swap, two 10mm bolts from memory.

Both of them are getting replaced under warranty, which is good given it is a design issue.

Mine is going in on Monday to have the rear light bar assessed. It has a crack and it has turned into a fish tank, with a ton of water sloshing around in it, which also seems to be affecting the lights themselves which are flickering from time to time. Note: this isn't the brake light/indicator unit but the central large light bar on a Trophy.

I have a crack in the tail bar plastic and it is full of water. On closer inspection there are small cracks appearing right along the plastic. No idea how this has happened other than it being a manufacturing fault - cheap plastic? The water is affecting the lights - thankfully break lights still work but the light bar is flickering. It’s going to the dealership tomorrow for assessment.

I need to check for possible cracks, my problem is condensation in the light bar near the centre. I haven't seen any cracks but I'll have a closer look. I have made the dealer aware and they said keep an eye on it and if it persists in dry weather then take it back. 23 plate Trophy.

That’s how it started with my 23 plate. Now cracked and full of water. Taking it in to be assessed tomorrow. Did you get it sorted?

I think cheap plastic, poor design (doesn't appear to be able to drain), maybe a bad seal is contributing.

On the other hand, all I need is some fish and I have an illuminated mobile tank!!

An update: they assessed it on the spot and didn't quibble because it is quite clearly full of water and you can see it sloshing around. The only concern was whether I had damaged it (e.g. backed into a post), which I obviously haven't.

Parts will take a few days to come and apparently it is 1hr 45min labour to change, the bootlid has to be stripped out to remove it, so they said.

From my fitting of a SE reversing camera, removing the rear spoiler is very straight forward, with the tailgate open, the trim on the underside is one piece and comes off on clips when the handhold and lock trim pieces have been removed. Then the spoiler has a row of 9? small 8mm? bolts from memory. In addition there are two white push fit clips holding either end of the spoiler and these are tricky to access and release without breaking. And it's off, refitting is a simple reversal but I can remember taking some time to slowly fit the spoiler back under the rear glass rubber.

Don't forget though that the Trophy has a different rear, with the huge light bar and camera assembly. Not sure if this is why it is supposedly more work to remove?

Had my light bar replaced under warranty last week.
Under 3 hours for that and the undertray brace kit to be done.
