Dashcam install

The installer put it in the back underneath the floor board and ran the cables along the right hand side of the car (drivers side for us). I don’t know exactly which fuses he used but I assume the same ones everybody else does. There are some photos floating around here. He mentioned the dealership tapped into the fuse for the lights which he thought was strange so he “redid it properly” (his words).

Grabbed this from another thread to show the fuse box, it’s a bit tricky to get to, but not prohibitively so if you need to be there.

This is the battery in the back, with the wires snaking off to the right.

Can you only do things like this if you own the car outright?
Dont think so - I've had lease cars for last 5 years and always install a camera and tell insurance and the leasing company - they seem to like it!

There are also dashcams that run off the 12V socket, so no need to hardwire (just won’t have parking mode I presume)

My dash cam has an internal battery for parking mode. Charges whilst the 12V socket is live, and then goes into parking mode once the 12V is off.
