Don't buy any electric car if you want to use public charging and are not good on computers and do not have help from someone who is. I have just taken two hours to down load one app on my phone and that is with help! I need at least 3-4 apps for my long journey!
DOn't buy an MG if you expect the guarantee to be comprehensive. Things MAY be different in other parts of europe but here in Spain they charge 50 euros for updating the software. In a car controlled via its computer this probably means you will have to pay for most faults. This is particularly concerning as WHt car list the MG 4 as the most unreliable electric car. You have been warned!
If its too late, well it is for me as well, and after 19 months only very minor things have gone wrong.

In the main you only need 2 things ... the Tesla app and a debit card for contactless payments. Other apps and RFID cards (e.g. Electroverse, ChargePlace Scotland) are merely preferential - you can get by in 99% of cases with those first 2 I mentioned. :)

Don't all your rapid chargers use credit cards?

I've just been to Spain from Denmark, with absolutely no knowledge of the Spanish language. I needed to download and use the Repsol app, which as most in Spain only is in Spanish. But thankfully Spanish people are the most kind, and petrol stations in Spain are manned, so a very kind Spanish woman helped me, free of charge and in her work time. Thank you to the Spanish EV and fossil people 🙏

I think you are being hard on the MG4 particularly as you say you only had minor problems. My local newspaper (Sheffield Telegraph) had a full page spread reporting the travails of a person who leased a £90,000 electric Porsche Taycan and it had been in the garage for repairs for a total of 8 months with the longest period being for 4 months. He just wanted to hand it back.

As for updates, if you can show the dealer a fault then, as reported here, it is fixed under warranty. Otherwise you are asking for an upgrade and the dealer is within their rights to as for payment. Look into the options for Cupras. Done dealers will do updates for free, depends on the dealer.

Finally, problems downloading apps is nothing to do with EVs and can occur with any app/phone/network combination.

It sounds as if the OP's issue are more with the charging network than the car itself. I understood the Spanish charging network is not as advanced as it is in the UK and France, based on the excellent report posted by @JIS a while back...

I've been looking at replacing my MG4 with a used EV from a better regarded manufacturer due to my AC charging problem and my conclusion is that all EV's have faults of some sort or another.

Early Hyundai Ioniq 5s have faulty ICCUs, Porsche owners have reported having their cars stuck in the garage for over 2 months while software problems are investigated, Mercedes 250's have overheating problems and the front drop links on the suspension only have a short life......

I could go on but in the end I'm going to keep my MG4 as although it takes MG longer than it should to sort out warranty defects (XPower's 65 mph vibrations excepted) they are no worse than many others.

I think you are absolutely correct and everything needs to be put in perspective!

I was thinking about an Ioniq 5N or a second hand Taycan as a replacement for my SE SR - I can live with minor issues on my 'cheap' car but I'm not sure I would be as forgiving on a £65k car that might have major issues!

Maybe I should just change it for an Xpower!

If only!
Some 22kW street chargers don't accept contactless (Believ in Ealing last time I used them)
There's a danger that a debit card may not work because the bank declines the transaction. I've had that problem with a credit card. Using an app or Electroverse card usually works because the associated credit card has been accepted.
