Don't charge from a 3 pin plug when it's 27 degrees outside kids

Maybe I should just replace it with one of these purpose built cables instead. I've got the money and you can't exactly put a price on safety.

The mains end socket (no charging, still pristine white) is in a garage with it's own consumer unit so I doubt it'd burn the house down if I just re-plugged the old cable but, all the stuffs in the garage might go up in flames.

I have a tough leads extension lead with inline RCD protection. Works great.

Before I had our Ohme Home Pro installed, we used the Granny charger. I plugged it into the outside socket, which I had installed decades earlier using 1.5 cable via a 16A breaker, with an MK Masterseal socket on the end of it. The circuit was protected by an RCD.

While not ideal, it ran fine for 3 months. I did check the socket afterwards and it was fine.

Used my Granny Charger for the 9 months I've had my X Power. Including yesterday's
30 degrees. No problems. 🙂👍

25m Tough Lead extension with in-line RCD plugged in ✅
Movement sensor installed into Tough Lead enclosure ✅
Fingerbot stuck to new BS1363-2 socket ✅
Home Assistant Automation created to disconnect power on suspected foul play ✅

Job done :D

Let's hope you don't get a power cut. 🙄😉🙂👍

Too late, already had one while I was in Portugal at the weekend 🤣

I wasn't charging the car though. Home Assistant, routers and switches etc. all have UPS so no problems there but, reinitialising the RCD could prove a faff if it happens while I'm charging. Mind, all the burglar alarms in the neighbourhood go off so I've no chance of missing it when I'm home and Home Assistant tells me as soon as the UPS kicks in when I'm away.

all the burglar alarms in the neighbourhood go off
That's because people don't maintain their alarm systems.

When the mains power fails, the back-up battery in the panel kicks in to take over powering the system, but if that's kaput, then the battery in the bell box on the wall outside goes off, annoying the neighbours for 20 minutes.

The battery back-up is there not so much to protect against tampering with the mains supply but to run the system for several hours if there is a temporary power cut.
