Having searched the forums I cannot find any complaints about a rattle from the driver's side dash. A rattle that is heard when going over sharp bumps or rough surfaces and has got slightly worse. Sounds like hard plastics vibrating/knocking together.
Not the sunglasses, nor the digital displays or vents under the passenger side.

My local dealer has investigated and cannot find an issue, despite the technician hearing it on a drive I had with him.
I am now being told that all MG4s have this rattle and it is just a "characteristic" of the MG4!

Has anyone else had this rattle that is apparently a characteristic of a brand new MG4 Trophy?! Pretty certain I'm being fobbed off.

For info, the rattle seems to be coming from the area near where the tweeter speaker or air vent close to the windscreen is.

You are definitely being fobbed off.

All faults are characteristics of the car until MG decides otherwise.

So, what other problems do you have with the car apart from a 'rattle' in the cabin?

Every time!!

Here's an idea! As pointed out by you on numerous occasions people come onto forums as they have issues and are looking for answers/support.
Instead of having a pop at every member that mentions an issue try helping a bit.

You have zero experience of the problems people are having with some UK dealers and MG UK in particular when it comes to warranty issues., so you can't really comment!

Just as we can't comment on MG Cyprus

Have you notice that everything the dealers can't resolve is a 'characteristic.' My MG is rattle free, apart from the scraper I put in the door bin.
Thanks. It's just good to know that I'm not going crazy with them saying they drove 2 other MG4s and heard the same rattle.
Why would a manufacturer build a car with a rattle characteristic?!
Why did the technician hear it on 2 separate occasions, attempt to find the fault twice, before realising it was a 'characteristic'?

I think the dealer it actually came from (and hours drive away) is going to agree to take it in themselves to look at. I guess my local dealer doesn't have any loyalty to me with them not supplying it originally.
It's a lease car, over 3 years, had it 6 weeks, and cannot put up with this irritating noise (albeit on rough surfaces/bumps only) for the remainder of the term.

You are definitely being fobbed off.

Very disappointing service. I guess it's too much work for them. I will pursue with the dealership it originally came from who will hopefully show a bit more loyalty towards me. (It's a lease car that came from a good hours drive away, hence I went to a more local dealer to investigate).

I popped the speakers on the left and right side of the dash and put some black cloth along the inner sides of the hole before replacing the speakers. That helped quite a bit on rougher surfaces at the time. However there's likely an element of ambient temperature at play, as it has returned on odd occasions during the summer.

I'd like to surround the entire speakers but haven't thought of a good material to do this, way too fiddly using just cloth as described above. Also worried it might drop down the hole! It's awkward work that close to the windscreen.

Mine doesn't rattle. It did, briefly, the day after I brought it home, until someone here pointed out that I should wrap something round the sunglasses I'd put in the sunglasses holder.

You're being given the run-around.

@Rolfe thank you for reassuring me I'm doing the correct thing in following this through. Still waiting for a call back, but have just chased via email.

Dealers hate it when customers come in with rattles, they can be notoriously difficult to track down - you can't hear the rattle when the car is stationary in the workshop. My Tesla has a rattle behind the screen but only when it's warm. I might look into it one day but, for now, I just turn the music up. My MG is still totally rattle free.

I realised I had a slight rattle around the passenger-side B pillar shortly after I bought my Golf GTi. I didn't do anything about it, but it was still bugging me 14 years later when Copart took it away.

This is why I'm keen to get it sorted. I could choose to try and ignore it, but if it's annoying me after a month of ownership, it's going to annoy me for the 3 years I have the lease.

Why would a rattle be a "characteristic" of a car? In the 2020s? That's mental.
Exactly, quite embarrassing
