Sorry that you seem to be a test case in this but it will be interesting if the MG aftersales experience shows signs of improvement on what it is marketing as a prestige car.
Their default aftersales (other than some good dealers) can be pretty poor with not the greatest communication.

Fingers crossed they up their game and it is resolved quickly

Had the car for about 6 weeks now Nik, but I will be making noises about rejecting the car if a swift remedy can’t be found ( I have no intention doing so as I like the car) - but hopefully they will expedite the repair ( again subject to any parts that might be required);
Right. So being over 30 days unfortunately you can't reject straight away. You have to give the dealer the right to repair.
When this happened with our BYD and it was taking ages I questioned with Santander what is reasonable time to wait for the repair. I was told up to six months.....
Well around July the dealer decided it was time to give up and ordered the replacement which we got in August. 6 months in total.
The saving grace was that 5 of these months we had another Atto3 as courtesy car. First month we had a ford puma petrol and it was replaced after I had a massive rant with them.

Thanks for that Nik, hopefully things will get resolved without further issues. If it appears that it’s not I will indeed talk to Santander advising that I may be looking at rejection of the car, given that technically it belongs to them until the final payment is made they will probably get heavily involved.

Don't rely on Santander. They are also the financing provider for our BYD. They wouldn't care less. They quoted as I mentioned six months! as reasonable time to be provided to the dealer for fixing the car. Till then they wouldn't do anything.
Notify them by all means if you start the process of rejection. But don't expect them to do much.
If it comes to that and I hope it doesn't, your best chance is to work together with the dealer.

So the car is now back with the MG dealer and a car provided. They intend to plug into diagnostic today and said they will give me a call once they have an idea of the issue.
Can’t really ask for more at this point, they were polite ( made me a coffee whilst I waited for the replacement car).
Let’s hope it’s something minor and that it can be rectified quickly. They have assured me that they will prioritise the car !
I’ll keep you all informed.

Good start. At least you have a car and the problem is now theirs.

Bad news indeed but it will be interesting to see how well MG deals with this kind of problem on their flagship model.

So guys, the dealership rang me last night and confirmed that they have the car charging on a trickle charge. Apparently when they plugged the diagnostic tool into the car it came up with a shed load of error codes ( they believe that these were caused by the AA disconnecting and then re-connecting the battery when they were called out). Due to the amount of error codes they deleted all of them and then plugged the car in - which immediately started to charge. They are going to plug it in again this morning and if it starts to charge again they will release the car back to me.
I’ve said that I will then run the car up to a fast DC charger to ensure it charges on them as well.
So all sounds good - my only slight worry is that having cleared all the error codes they have no indication of what actually went wrong in the first place.
Once I hopefully pick the car up today I will attempt a fast charge and let you all know how it goes.
It will be nice to get my car back - Happy New Year all !

Shame the AA didn't look for codes, I would have thought that would be standard procedure before disconnecting the 12V battery - knowing that the disconnection will trigger tons of fault codes itself.

Might be worth investing in a cheap code reader yourself, so if it happens again you can read the codes and give the report to the garage.

Unfortunately the AA didn’t have the required software on their laptop to read the car !

So just picked the car up and put it on a DC charger to check all is well. Car connected fine and was charging to 110, I left it charging for 5minutes and then disconnected. As such it would appear all is fine ! I might well get my own reader as suggested by tsedge ( just in case) can anyone recommend which I should purchase.

Happy days! I hope it was just a software hickup.
A bit unfortunate that the dealer couldn't see any error codes. I would expect an audit history to be there regardless of disconnecting the 12V battery, bit surprised by this.

Hi Nik
When they plugged the car in there was loads or error codes ( apparently relating to the disconnect & reconnect of the battery). Apparently it is impossible for them to see what the error is without “opening” each error code which I am told given the number would have taken an enormous amount of time.
They cleared all the codes so that they could start from the beginning, however no additional codes were recorded. It sounds as if the car just had a “brain fart” hopefully it won’t happen again - we will see !

I can't recommend anything specific - others may - but you can pay as little or as much as you want.

For a basic code reading functionality you do not need to spend much, I would probably go for a bluetooth OBD2 dongle that works with a phone app, that would do enough. Look for something where you can extract and save a PDF code healthcheck report.

All the signs are a software bug / issue, so I would be also looking out for software updates in the near future, especially if it happens again.
