How does A on the regen work.

Like some others I run Towing mode all the time, my understanding is that one of its functions is to disable the radar and camera to some degree, in which case when I use A in the regen settings again which I do all the time, how is this operating ? or is it just defaulting to a level 2 regen setting . The manual says A uses the radar and most likely the other variables sensed by the car ( speed , "throttle " position brake requests ) to operate automatically. I don't see /feel a difference in the braking effect from town driving to open road driving which is what I would expect if it was fully automatic.

Adaptive is a waste of time in my opinion, it's not adaptive enough

I've read suggestions Adaptive mode might work better when using the AAC ACC, as it can brake quite harshly on regen level 3. I can't say I've tried that yet though, I just keep it on 3 all the time, I like the strong deceleration, and only use AAC ACC on long stretches of freeway driving.

I use adaptive cruise control with A regen as my default on the motorway. As mentioned above it makes the corrections smoother. Driven from Scotland to central Spain and I liked it. Better than my old petrol car. It’s not ‘select and forget’ though. Have to play around with what cruise control distance I want and then speed up for over taking. I put it on close distance (1 bar) when on the inside lane and then aim to start my overtake before its decided to slow me down. If I’m in the outside lane and intend staying there for a while, then I generally have it on long distance (3 bars). I keep it on A regen all through the time while on the motorway.

Towing mode will not disable the radar (front) it will disable the ultra sonic sensors at the rear aka parking sensors, since when ur towing you constantly have something in their range.

A mode regen should adjust the regen mode based on the front radar, so nothing infront of you regen 1 so you can coast, but if there is a vehicle infront it should increase the regen based on the distance to help with breaking. Well that's the theory.

Towing mode disables LKA, Emergency braking and ACC cannot be used with it on, hence the assumption about the radar.

I’m guessing you could check if the radar is on by looking at the dashboard and seeing if the car is detecting other cars/bikes in front of it? It could be the radar stays active for other functions, and ACC is simply disabled so the car doesn’t slow down rapidly and potentially jackknife the trailer?

I usually switch to adaptive on longer journeys, but to be honest it just feels like it sets the regen to the lowest setting and keeps it there, no matter how fast I'm going or what type of roads I'm on.

Never really thought about the finer points and intricacies but interesting.
I use towing mode as prescribed , then go for adaptive regen, ignore speed signs and sleepy driver. All seems fine, no idea about whether adaptive regen is more effective than the other settings.

After mulling it over for a while I think this is what is occurring. ( Gavin and Stacey ) . When in Adaptive mode its default setting is level 2, until the radar detects something in range when it changes to level 3. ie ,on/off switch. If the radar is disabled then it stays at level 2. I don't think its any more complicated or sophisticated than that.

If you want to get super scientific about it you could have a look at this where they take all sorts of things into consideration. I wouldn't think the MG is anywhere near this clever but might take some of the parameters into account.

In a mild jam on the motorway in A mode the cars drops speed a bit earlier (with a preference of level 2 regen). This makes the car more adapting to the speed of the traffic ahead. In mode 3 or OPD the braking is short and heavier. So I prefer A mode on motorways. OPD overrides A mode.
Laeaving motorways and going into towns, or taking national roads I always use level 3 immediately. Here, you save electricity with regen the most.
