In praise of my XPower

I do like the IM5, but it is a bit of a clone of the Tesla 3, certainly from the outside, although not necessarily a bad thing.
The X peng p7 certainly does look very interesting.
As for the Viking, he would praise it to high heaven, they've give him one for nowt. Sorry my cynical side coming out there. 😉🙂👍

Yeah I agree but I think he actually owns it ..

That said like BYD they like to get good reviews and and sues anyone who give a bad review..

The jay em on cars YouTuber exposed some of BYDs shady BS..

So yeah as a YouTuber / influencer i gurss some get kick backs or scared to be on a bad end of legal trouble

Me I say it straight the X power decent enough car for the price not amazing not bad lacks a lot of refinement be it at a the price point or just not built well enough for the power it gives you ..

MG Australia are disgraceful and service centres are MEH at best ..

Would I buy another cheaper MG ?

If I was more confident that the service and customer service improved .. maybe!!

Would I pay 80k plus for a MG ..NO WAY

Average incomes and taxation are also a lot less in China and manufacturers always price their products to what that market will support.

That's the China price? Eminently possible. Once you add shipping, tariffs, VAT etc. to it you can pretty much double the price for the UK.
They say the top spec is like 35k 40k usd ( not sure why they all spit out usd ) that equates to around the 80k 90k aud ..

If I was going to make a guess in UK money 40-45k once everything added ..

But around 700hp awd 650nm of torque o- 62 in 3.5 and all the bells and whistles air suspension etc etc ..

with that style it’s a very very attractive and stylish piece of equipment..

That video was quite an eye opener and shows the big culture difference between Chinese and Western car manufacturers. Well worth watching right to the end IMHO.

That’s a very good video but also very scary to!

I’m a gamer ( not so much these days) but I still buy the odd game now and then of late ive bought the odd game around the $90aud price based off some reviews..

A lot have been borderline broken ( lucky Xbox give refunds )

NOW take that philosophy and add it to a car ( average Aussie spends between 50 and 80k for a car )

Do I want sone lemon based off a scared / dodgy reviewer/ influencer that I’ve got to keep sending it back to the dealer or it’s constantly giving me issues..

Perfect example scour the internet and YouTube and find me any 2 year ago at tine or just before release reviews of the X power that mention any more that this car doesn’t have the vibration if anything is mentioned at all..

You won’t I’ve watched near on 50 video many times over before I bought my X power and literally nothing!!

I found out about the vibration from this forum !!

Agree. I too watched a lot of X Power videos and not one mentioned the vibes.
I too, learned about it on here. Along with the software problems, particularly the LKA. The bulging undertray. And the shite,
although not all, dealers, etc etc. Taking all that into account and after 2, hour long, unaccompanied test drives. I bought one anyway. And fortunately for me, it's been great, although not had any dealings with the dealers. So even though I do watch the reviews and read forum's. Particularly forum's which are great. I'll make my own mind up. 🙂👍

I've heard (in the UK at least), MG are investing to improve customer service/experience and understand premium buyers expect more.

It is hard to know if we are seeing the results from this - my local dealer seem very capable and knowledgeable, but that might be just because they now have years or experience with MG EVs and have been able to retain the same technicians for a long time.

A large part of all car service experience problems are the many separate parties in the chain:
  • SAIC manufacturer
  • MG local nation distributor
  • Dealer chain
  • Local dealer garage

That's because most DON'T have that issue at all. Those without the issue (or any others) don't tend to comment on forums. That's the unfiortunate truth about any social media, it's all about venting about issues, whether caused by user error (mostly) or by a manufacturing design. Few will comment on how good their car really is or how fault free it has been. I'm one of the few exceptions but most will not comment while they don't have any issues - which is most owners if any brand/model.

I’m not sure i see it there should be a world wide recall for every mg4 X power built before mid 24.

The car should be tested by competent techs then assessed for the repair and repaired if the vibration is found under warranty..

This should have happened over a year ago ..

Then your MG4 X power owners who I might add paid ( if you crunch the numbers ) ( and because cyberster hadn’t been released ) paid quite a high price fior what was essentially their flagship car would look at repeat sales of there next product!!

Big recalls are very rare and only ever for safety issues. And no, this wouldn't normally be considered a safety issue. This isn't MG specific, the costs mean all manufacturers try their best to avoid it.

If I had this problem, I'd be mad about it too. But I don't think it is likely anything new will happen now.

Was mentioned in a couple:-
MG4 XPower Review and Buyers Guide 2023 | Electrifying.com

And at ~36 mins into this one:-

I test drove one for a day which had no vibrations so ordered on the back of that. Sadly our car had it and so did the Hendy demonstrator which I asked to drive to compare.
Master tech confirmed a majority of x-powers he'd worked on had it (summer 2024). SAIC invested time and money in engineering a fix (although subsequently withdrawn from UK for dubious reasons), which indicates to me this must have been a widespread issue or why bother. But what do I know.

Glad there are cars out there without it as aside from that I do like ours very much.

I was also concerned about the mention of the four wheel drive being pretty useless.

"There are some oddities though. Although the XPower has four wheel drive, the peculiar way the system works means it is pretty useless on slippery surfaces such as snow and mud, and will spin a single wheel uselessly. More irritating is a vibration which can be heard and felt from the drivetrain at speeds above 68mph."

Probably a daft 🤪 question but presume you were in Snow mode and not Sport mode. As they are the 2 modes that give you permanent 4WD. I found the 4WD to be fine, in last Winter's Snow. Obviously not talking about a foot deep. Probably about 8 inches.
And yes the vibes are a pain, for some, unfortunately. 🙁

100% agree ..

But

It is a warranty fault no doubt this characteristic BS is exactly that ..

Problem is Aus consumers laws far harsher than the UK ..

I rang the accc which is basically the consumer laws office in my state and they were itching for a fight about it ..

Send this document stating this and that section under Australian consumer laws blah blah..

This was all handled badly from day one ..

If MG had handled this correctly ( even dumb me can figure this out) you recall all the cars that have the fault fix them happy customers repeat business..

Now would I recommend MG to anyone NO

There service has been terrible as I said before ..

What stings them even more there are at least 20 plus Chinese brands lining up to take market share off MG ..

I wouldn’t buy BYD or Tesla personally ..

Zeekr Volvo geely I would buy in a heart beat being under the geely brand

Xpeng seems like a good brand so that high on my list

Cherry is another I would buy

MG .. under saic motor group NO
