For the younger Gaulois Puppies is slang for : female appendages for the feeding of infants.
One of our bitches had said puppies and when old enough we offered them around to neighbours etc. A young couple turned up and could not decide which to chose eventually whittling it down to two. I said "you have got a couple of nice puppies there" to which the girl looked a little shocked whilst her boyfriend was rolling around the floor laughing his head off.
Best , unintentional , joke I have ever done in France. Its the way I dire em ! True by the way.

Strange how the brain automatically reorders the position of words so that the sentence makes sense!

It's because we inherently skim read, and recognise the intent of sentences by patterns of words rather than their discrete order.

The mis-ordering of words has to be carefully done though ... sometimes a sentence will "jar" if the word order is sufficiently weird.
