Just got my license and I want to buy a used MG4 Trophy any advice?

I’m over 80 and with full ncb 1400 pa

I pay less for both my 74pl Enyaq and 21 plt MG5 combined , with a smack last year and being a HGV driver , 50 years old

Driving at that speed on motorways just gives fuel to the anti EV crowd, bad enough the stuff they make up!

My advice would be to properly research second hand values and make sure you don't overpay, there are loads out there for sale, so a dealer should be willing to sell at a fair price - note that a fair price means they can cover their costs (servicing, prep, marketing, VAT, overheads, faults, etc...) and still make a profit, so it won't be a trade in price, you are probably talking about £2k above trade in value to make it worth a main dealer selling it to you.

But there are bargains out there.

@redwood98 doesn't indicate how old they are ... or where they are in the UK. (Both are major factors regarding insurance costs - how long ago you passed your test may have less of an impact than we think).

My 22YO daughter passed in December and in January she bought a 2021 Fiat 500e which is group 19. Even being out in rural Staffordshire her first premium was £2k with a black box monitor installed.

So you were insured on a car as a learner? (It happens - for the very point of minimising the first insurance cost after passing).

Yes, I was insured on another car while I had my provisional

That makes quite a difference, my daughter had a learner policy so had a year's no claims when came time to buy her own car. £1K instead of £2K for her first policy, and when the renewal came up, it had more than halved again (plus she could ditch the black box)

There are probably many cars coming off their 2 year PCP contracts at the moment so might be worth looking at auctions or the bulk dealers (e.g., Arnold Clark) as there should be plenty of choice and a good few low mileage examples (mine went back with less than 6k on the clock). I'm pretty sure the warranties carry over to the secondhand owner so you should be covered for a good few years.
