...Just ordered an MG4 Trophy ER (my first EV) any advice most welcome...

With a 77 kW battery, six hours isn't enough. An Ohme/Octopus Intelligent Go dynamic schedule can start before 11.30pm and finish after 10am and still be charged at 7 ppkW. It's not a true TOU tariff. That only applies to the rest of the house.
He is only saying he does 20 miles a day just keep it topped off to 80% and charge above 30/40 now and again let it run down but for the mileage in op no reason not too.

Tomato also has 4 hours at 13.37 from 10pm and 12. And 9:30-11:30am for those needing the 8 hours.

The price for those 4 hours is higher than the cheaper night rate.

If anyone's interested, at the moment Tomato Lifestyle rates if you have an EV are:

Day rate 23.2628p/kWh

00:00 - 06:00 5.004p/kWh

09:30 - 11:30 and 22:00 - 00:00 14.0427p/kWh

Standing charge 42.8563p/day

They may even add you into June tariff like they did me.

4 hours 13.37p
6 hours 5p

As an example, my last 100% equalisation charge started at 7pm on 26 September and ended at 10am on 27 September. The Ohme picked the slots and the total "off-peak" use was 81kWh.

Is it not better to Max Charge on Ohme for equalisation/balancing as the charge slots mean balancing could be prematurely ended (I don't believe it restarts but correct me if I am wrong).

Thanks again for all the replies. ...sadly no updates as yet- OVO haven't responded to the survey (fair enough, it's only been 4 days) and I haven't heard from the dealer as to when the car will be available to collect (that's only been 5 days and they said 2-3 weeks, it's just impatience setting in). Am picking up more by the day though, which is great. I think half of the problem is I like to know and understand things, and having home serviced our cars for the last 25+ years, I want to be on top of things in time for getting the MG4.
Thanks once again for the replies :=)

Hi ,newbie here as well. Still waiting for my Trophy to be delivered. Got my Hive EO charger from BG, on offer for £639 . BG not doing installs at moment so had to use an approved installer to get the one year free electricity. Happy days. The installer i used charged over £100 less than BG charge. This worked out to just over £1100 for both charger and install.
Great forum and members, learning lots of useful info. Thanks guys

Yes we are with Octopus Go and a Go Zero charger. We also run the dishwasher and washing machine on the cheap 12.30 to 5.30 tariff. Hope that helps.

Apart from all the debate about home chargers/tariffs, the other key tip is make sure the car is delivered to you with version R59 (or later); that is what makes the car best meet expectations

That is interesting, really useful advice- I will check that when the dealer calls me to advise the car is available to collect. Many thanks!

Well I've had results back from the wall box survey (OVO) and have gone with the Ohme Pro charger- due to be fitted in a weeks time. Also sold my 7 year old C Class today (been a great car incidentally) so I'm getting nearer... just need the dealer to phone me and tell me they have received my MG4, as I now have no car! -good job I'm a cyclist and have a train station not too far away.

I've been so pleased with my Trophy Long Range. I came from 5 years with a nissan LEAF so my charger is now just over 6 years old. It's a projectEV and by today's standards quite dumb and clunky. I've stuck with the basic Octopus GO tariff which does me proud but when the day comes that I need to change I'll be looking hard at options.
I'm sure you'll enjoy your MG4. Driving electric is so much fun.

A washing cycle for us typically takes about 2 hours ... there's no way we'd stay up until 1.30am 😂
why not use a plug timer or the washing machines timer if it has one. A plug timer usually requires you to start the session and then switch over to the timer that will deal with the rest of the 99% cycle

In addition if you have an immersion heater you can set it to heat between 4:30 & 5:30 am using cheap electricity on the likes of octopus go so that you start the day with a cheap cylinder of hot water

...Yes, fuel costs look to plummet somewhat, hopefully with a corresponding increase in driving fun :=) ...My work commute is a busy rush hour 20 miles each way, 5 days/week, and I typically I achieve 35-40 MPG (average speed 15-20 MPH). Quick sums predict a weekly fuel bill of £40 dropping to about £6 when charged on an EV overnight plan. Hey, even if it ended up being twice that I'd be well on the right side.
Welcome Dave, there's not a lot of ER owners like us out there, 😁. Someone did research on this forum a while ago and at the time there was only 850 registered in the UK, let's say 1000 now. I've had mine 14 months now.
It's a fun car to drive, the bigger motor gets you out of trouble verrrry quickly🤭. Not as quick as the very fast X-Power, but next in line.
I see that you have a slow commute😳, you might find the 'one pedal drive' feature useful as well as the 'Advanced Cruise Control' that tootles you along at the same pace as the vehicle in front of you. If the traffic stops for a while, you have to dab the accelerator to re-engage it.
I would definitely get yourself a charger point installed, it will pay for itself in the long run. I'm thinking of replacing my very dumb charge point that was installed way back in 2016 and think that the Ohme charger with Octopus Intelligent Go, as with Griffian's experience, is the one to choose. I have Octopus Go tariff and use the schedule charging facility in the car to get my cheap rate overnight.
I saw an article on the Beeb about the Chancellor having a 'conversation' about levying EV drivers 3p per mile.🤬 You have to guesstiame your annual mileage, then pay in advance, if you are under, then you pay the difference🤬. What is she thinking about🤔🤬. So you might have to build that criteria into your sums on running costs per annum. God knows how she expects that to work😏
Also look out for quick wear of the rear tyres, I only got 11,000 mile out of the Bridgestone Touranza's. Apparently they come with shallow tread depth to reduce road noise😳. I don't normally drive with a heavy foot and was disappointed of the wear rate, I have Michelin Cross Climate 2's on now...also recommended hereabouts.
Anyway enjoy 😊

What colour have you ordered 🤔 I was having a look on tinternet and found this website Most Popular MG 4 TROPHY EXTENDED RANGE Colours in the UK Apparently mine is quite rare in red, only 185 registered in the UK...who knew😁.
According to that website, the figure for ER's stands at 1594 and only 266 registered this year.
