I'm going to contact some solar companies to see if solar is viable.

Good idea, I think the South Coast gets much more sun than the rest of the country, so you should do well if you haven't got too much shade from tall trees or other buildings.

Loads of companies do solar these days, Octopus and Wickes for instance but you can probably find a good local firm.

There are still the odd cowboy lot around but should be easy enough to avoid. Just make sure they are MCS approved.

Also lots of good advice online, such as from "Gary Does solar".

At any rate my overall cost is much lower than my old Fabia vRS would have been.

Indeed. As long as you can charge at home it is cheaper, even on a standard rate tariff.
