Keeping track of my MG4 (efficiency)

I'm going to contact some solar companies to see if solar is viable.
Good idea, I think the South Coast gets much more sun than the rest of the country, so you should do well if you haven't got too much shade from tall trees or other buildings.

Loads of companies do solar these days, Octopus and Wickes for instance but you can probably find a good local firm.

There are still the odd cowboy lot around but should be easy enough to avoid. Just make sure they are MCS approved.

Also lots of good advice online, such as from "Gary Does solar".

At any rate my overall cost is much lower than my old Fabia vRS would have been.
Indeed. As long as you can charge at home it is cheaper, even on a standard rate tariff.

@NLMGSAN, it is odd that the monthly milage over the raw power inputs from home and public charging give a mls/kWh efficiency higher than the on-board computer, and I questioned it too.
How the car algorithms work out the figure presented we don't know, but I just worked mine out from data I collect from my EVSE and Public charging stats over the milage for the month.
I've had similar figures for the past 3 month's submitted from a spreadsheet loosely based on one by @KnightRider for his IM 5.
As @wattmatters put it:
"They are both actual, just measuring different things"

Hello.
I'll be using this thread to share information with you about my MG4, and at the same time I'll use it for myself, for keeping track of its mileage, etc.

As a small introduction, I got my MG4, new from the dealership, at the beginning of June 2024.

It is a MY23 MG4 Standard (with the 51kWh LFP battery), in Diamond Red. It was on R33 software when I picked it up.

As for the stats, I'll be keeping track, monthly, of the following:

Current overall combined efficiency, after 30,024 km: 15.2 kWh/100km (4.08 mi/kWh)

I'll also share more information (like issues, servicing, etc.) as it happens.
Feel free to ask me any questions.
if not in winter my wife normally have 12kwh/100km - mostly closed road with upper speed limit 80km/h, very few traffic lights, single journey 40km.

First post updated, with January's data:

PeriodDistance (km)Efficiency (kWh/100km)Average Speed (km/h)Up Time
January 2026143418.7 (3.32 mi/kWh)3243:39

Current overall combined efficiency, after 31,432 km: 15.4 kWh/100km (4.03 mi/kWh)
The 18.7kwh/100kms is ball park to what we are getting, but a lot of our driving is at 100km/h to 110km/h on the freeway, and that does drop the efficiency quite a bit.
I was caught in strong winds for a trip recently to an Electric vehicle meeting and the 150km trip resulted in an average of 51kwh/100kms, made it home with a few % left from the 51km/h battery, that will stuff up the long term energy use for a while

Is that a typo? Headwinds do have a penalty but not a tripling of consumption.
Yeah, 25kwh/100kms, so the full 51kwh battery to travel under 200kms.
Looked at the B/S label on the windscreen, claims 402km from the 51kwh battery, yet also shows 184wh/km, that comes out to the average of 18.4kwn/100kms .... one of them is realistic, the other, off with the fairies, 12.75kwh/100kms, that's a long down hill run combined with a very strong tailwind ..... The only time the MG4 gets better than 18kwh/100kms, is when it's on the trailer behind the motorhome

Odd. I'm mostly traveling motorways with daily distances of 170 kms. We had serios frost, snow, always a couple of storms. Corrected for charge losses my average is close to 17 kWh per 100 km.

In my case, the high consumption is due to the heating being on. I've discussed here before how much this eats away the battery.

Most of my mileage is urban and I never go above 100km/h on the motorway anyway.

22°C when it's really hot and humid outside, 24°C when it's biting cold outside ..... probably the type of weather many on this forum might regard as summer weather
As for driving on Ice and snow roads, I'm guessing my kWh/100km would be a lot better because I'd be driving slower and with far more finesse in the throttle application ..... whipping out of a back road T intersection because the throttle response is fast enough to be well clear of the approaching vehicle by the time they reach the intersection, wouldn't be a consideration on a wet or icy road .....

Maybe if I drove in SNOW mode my energy usage might improve ..... but the range matches the trip requirement, so I'm happy to enjoy the EV and the EV grin it provides....
