Yes, Teslas are remarkably efficient. But after watching that video, it is the IM5 I want.
I’ve gone for the ID7 - great range, great 2 year lease deal, German built, good software and a good local trusted dealer I know well. Warranty issues dealt with without question 🙂. Suits my needs better these days too with lots of longer distance motorway journeys . It will cost me far less on a 2 year lease than my Xpower has cost over 2 years on PCP but to be fair that was bad timing on my purchase…. I was too eager to get one early 😉

Also be careful about what Mercedes are up to with the CLA 250+... it turns out that most of the useful software-related options are not included in the sizeable purchase price. For instance, you don't even get adaptive cruise control:
Augmented Reality permanent £429
360 camera for parking for 3 years £239
Drive Assist three years £749

At those prices, I'm likely to just walk away from the CLA on principle.

There's retail list prices and then there's personal lease prices. Sometimes there is a huge disconnect 😉

The equivalent Xpower lease deal at the time of the above ID7 (July 2025) deal is below :-

No subscriptions on the VW thankfully and lots of toys 👍

Go figure which I thought was the better deal !!!

You are right MG IM5 standard range 8000 miles £1100 upfront, £380 a month

Yes, I watch the lease prices very closely and the ID.7 has been a real bargain for over a year now. We picked up an ID.3 on 2 yr / 6k for just £196/month on a 9+23 deal which was ridiculously cheap! Mercedes want over £600/month for 12k/yr on 9+23/35/47, excluding those extra packs, so they can take a running jump...

Good Spot, it's a bit more for a 2 year lease (£397) and there's no info on colour options/ costs but ranks 9.1 out of 10 on Leasing.com which is good value IMHO 👍

VIP Gateway are the broker btw

I really like the look of the IM5, I currently drive an MG4 (which I have no issues with, other than the over zealous LKA, even with software updates!), but I have 2 reservations:

- it's big! I go to some car parks in my MG4 and it's a struggle to open the door and wiggle out, as spaces seem to be getting smaller and smaller, so the car next to you is getting closer and closer. The IM5 is quite a bit wider, so presumably is quite restricted as to where it can park. I appreciate it has some great driver aids to help it get into small spaces, but you still have to get out of the car and you have to hope the car next to you is careful opening their doors!

- the boot space doesn't seem that large, especially for a family of 4 going on holiday, or 2 golfers going on a golf day. There's no parcel shelf. I don't mind finding somewhere else to put my parcels (!), but also, isn't it a function of the parcel shelf to hide whatever you might have in the boot for security purposes.

If anyone who has their IM5 already has any opinions on the above, then I'd be extremely grateful to hear them.

I don't have an IM5, but the glass on the rear is very dark, you can't see in to the boot. More and more vehicles are going this way (ditch parcel shelf).

Regarding boot space, it is a hatchback not an SUV, so the IM6 is there for people who need the extra space.

On parking, it is a big car, no doubt, not really intended for the daily shop. At this price, many owners will likely have a second car more suitable for this.

I could get my golf kit, inc the electric trolley in the IM5 but it did need a jiggle! IN the IM6 I could virtually throw it in…..

It's definitely a small boot for the size!

As I've said previous and you have mentioned it's other drivers/passengers you have to worry about in car parks. I've been in some extremely tight multi storey carparks and they felt tight in the Born nevermind a near 5 m long car. Private airport car parks are also tight as they are cramming in as many motors as will fit on the land, to maximise income

Thinking about it more, see what you started!

Battery technology is coming on leaps and bounds but for me it seems that taking the easier route for manufacturers is to chuck bigger and bigger batteries in big cars but you end up with massive heavy cars!
But think of all that kinetic energy you pick up!
