MG4 & 5 Ventilation

Use your HVAC (air con) else it'll eventually leak ... the oil in the air con "gas" helps to lubricate the seals in the system - stop using it for long enough and the seals will dry out, so that the gas escapes.
Really? Many MG4s that have been bought have been sitting around for months unused. No issues with the aircon systems cooling function at all. The 'drying out seals' issue was an issue many years ago but materials and lubricants have moved on like many other developments.

Really? Well I wonder what this is referring to then:
Part of the misting is a build up of water vapour in the car from wet feet, damp clothes etc.
I always put a couple of dehuminifier blocks in the door pocket of my MG5. At this time of year they fill up with water within 4 weeks . This cures the problems for me.
It is very important to always make sure the A/C is turned on for a short time whenever you use the car otherwise you will end up with lots of bills later on.
🤷‍♂️

I found my MG4 was steaming up constantly but it really was just down to my settings. With A/C always on and air circulation set to Auto it seems to stay balanced temperature wise and doesn't steam up.

I didn't realise that simply changing the fan speed would override the auto circulation, which meant it just got stick on recirc for months. I'm only just getting used to cars with no real knobs and dials!

I have noticed a lot more interior condensation in my 4 and 5 than other cars I have owned. I have discovered that a lot of this is down to fact that after using the windscreen quick demist or in fact just using the fan on a low setting the ventilation set up defaults to re-circulation mode, this in itself contributes to the condensation and entails having to constantly use the quick de-mist button. When I have set the ventilation set up back to fresh air, the windows do not steam up as much. I am not an advocate of having the A/C on all the time.
I find it absolutely ridiculous it resets to recirc after any use. Has anyone encountered this or got a solution?

My MG4 has a switch on the aircon screen which can be set to recirculate, auto and fresh. Auto seems to be on a timer for 15 min to warm the car up quickly. Mine defaults to fresh air when re starting the car.Hope this helps.

I've been trying to work out what the "Auto" setting does for air recirculation. The User Manual just says "the A/C system automatically adjusts the internal or external circulation according to the actual situation", which doesn't tell you anything. I've just noticed that it usually seems to be circulating internal air, so thought it was a pretty useless setting. I asked MG and they couldn't tell me what it did.
I've also just discovered that if you have it set to external, it resets to internal when you turn the A/C on and off, which is a real pest. I, too, would love to find a fix for this.

If the car has been sitting in the sun and is hotter inside than out, and you want to cool it. Using external will be quicker. Once internal is cooler than external and you still want to cool, internal will be more efficient.

There's also the matter of needing a certain amount of fresh air in the car, for breathing requirements.

How well "auto" does this, I've no idea.

My MG4 steamed up until I set it to use external air. I manually set the speed usually to 3 or 4 and week increase it when there are more people in the car. In winter I will direct the airflow over the screen more often. The car remembers the settings so I don't fiddle with it. I just leave the AC on as I like fresh air. Fiddling just complicates life.

I don't use the HVAC much in Summer but I leave AC permanently selected and airflow set to Auto and mine never mists up in Summer.
In Winter I usually demist defrost the car remotely via the app and if I forget I just put the front and rear demisters on for 2 or 3 minutes for demisting and 5-10 minutes for defrosting depending how thick the ice is.
The MG4 is the best car I've had at demisting quickly with the exception of a couple of Ford Mondeos with the heated front screen.
