Oooo, me like.

Yes it's not the greatest picture, but it doesn't look half bad. That actually looks, pretty good. Looks like it's been lowered with a nice set of alloys.![]()
The current version is a bold design especially at the front. Im sure they can make it even better. That new version looks a bit underwhelming tbh.I'm quite glad about that . I really don't like the look of the new car. I like the "sharpness" of the current version.
And I was completely wrong... the new MG4 is the first car getting the semi-solid state battery.I think you will be waiting a while. Semi-solid state will initially have quite a price premium, so I think they will focus it on the IM5 and IM6 high-end MGs.
Wonder if we'll get the semi-solid battery version?Spoke to my dealer today while I was there, they report:
- MG4 interior facelift due later this year (to match MGS5).
- New MG4 due next year.
So it sounds like the Chinese get the new car a year earlier than we do.
This sounds a bit confusing to me. 2 quite separate versions of the MG4 but both called MG4....It’s coming Down Under by the looks of this article;

MG to expand its small EV lineup in Australia with a second MG 4 — CarExpert.com.au
MG will reposition its existing MG 4 as a more expensive electric hatch, while a new front-wheel drive MG 4 will slot in underneath it.apple.news
Front wheel drive? Are they serious? This sounds a bit confusing to me. 2 quite separate versions of the MG4 but both called MG4....
I can see the logic ... having all the electrical gubbins at the front (and the basic torsion beam rear suspension) means a load of space can be freed up for rear seat passengers and luggage/storage.Front wheel drive? Are they serious?
Cheaper. Cars probably £11k in ChinaFront wheel drive? Are they serious?
Yeah so it seems the new design will be replacing the models with a 51kWh battery, they’ll call it the MG4 Urban. The current design will remain available with only the 64 kWh battery, so no more ER, but the Xpower will stay available as well. This sounds a bit confusing to me. 2 quite separate versions of the MG4 but both called MG4....
But RWD is so much more fun.I can see the logic ... having all the electrical gubbins at the front (and the basic torsion beam rear suspension) means a load of space can be freed up for rear seat passengers and luggage/storage.
The majority of the competitors in this class are FWD.
Yeah their range estimates are ridiculously optimistic. I think NEDC claims 505km for the Trophy 64 kWh which I have never seen, not even when I drove the car of the dealership lot (I think it said 485 km of range then). That tells me a bigger battery version of the new URBAN will arrive later.
Soon after the new Urbans have been delivered I expect disappointing energy consumption numbers in the news. The 54 kwh is supposed to do 11.4 kwh/100 km to achieve a 530 km range. No way it will do that unless you use it as a shopping car for the local grocery store in always favourable temperatures.
The cry for a bigger battery will coincide with the introduction of a new 64 kWh version and likely something larger (semi solid). The old MG4 will be gone.
