MG4 - First UK dealer hands on photos and specifications

While no roof bars isn't a deal breaker for me, I have used them very occaisionally on the ZS. Can "universal" bars be used when a car hasn't been given a rating?
Not if you want your insurance to cover you in the event if an accident whilst carrying anything on your roof

Interesting about the parking sensors too, doesn't bother me as I've never had front sensors but on the images these looked like sensors to me. But I guess it is just a render.

Would it not depend on whether you've declared the modification to your insurer?

Something like the Thule Evo Clamp is a well known product for cars without obvious roof fixings.

Yesterday, I got the first chance to see (and sit in) the new MG4 (and facelifted MG5).

First impressions were "wow!"

The quality of the finish was very impressive. This was in Trophy specification, in the new Camden Grey paint colour, with a 64kWh battery. Interior space has been maximised by using a long wheelbase (the MG4 wheelbase is only 15mm shorter than the MG HS). This gives shorter overhangs, with more passenger space compared to traditionally proportioned cars.

The boot was a good size, with a two level floor. No figures were given regarding litre capacity, but it appeared bigger than say Kia Niro Electric.

The rear passenger space is good for 2 adults and a child, with excellent headroom and legroom. Flat floor through the back. No rear courtesy lights though (!).

LED headlights front and rear. No Frunk.

The dashboard design is well laid out, with a quality fit and finish throughout. Clearly this is a car which has been benchmarked against the iD3, but I'd objectively say that this feels more premium.

Under the floating drive-mode selector, there is a storage console with 2 cupholders, a roller-shutter covered large drawer, and a couple of USB sockets.
Behind the drive mode selector is a wireless phone charger (with a removable cover, where you can pass USB cables through if required).

There is no start-stop button on the MG4. To start it, you simply get into the car with the key, and put your foot on the brake.

I have been told by an MG UK engineer that the CCS charging speed on the 51kWh variant is around 90-100kW, and on the 64kWh version it is 120-130kW peak.

I am more miffed that we had the USB socket in the rear view mirror mount in the ZS and now it has been removed for the MG4. Obviously small beans really, but I know that every time i look at a messy lead spanning all round my window and dasdhboard to connect my dash cam - it is going to wind my right up! :)

A USB socket in the mirror mount should be standard on ALL vehicles in this age of the dashcam! 🤬

Wonder if a spare ZS one would fit the 4?

Possibly, but it would still need to be hard wired in. Therefore probably cost prohibitive.

The more i think of this, the more frustrated I get LOL, I need to get out more :)

Nope. And in any case, "universal" roof bars would require rails, which the MG4 hasn't got.

I meant the one's that can be used without rails that clip on. Maybe universal is the wrong word. Anyway as I sead not a deal breaker for me
No, the likes of Thule etc would still require a load rating for the roof. The type that mount direct to the roof need custom-designed mountings, so are more of a "custom" fit, rather than universal.
