MG4 - First UK dealer hands on photos and specifications

One of the reason if and when she gets has the MG4 she wants the cloth seating they don’t need any heating I don’t think and they are cooler at this time of year more than once this summer I have almost called at A&E for some burns cream I can tell you.
You park up its dull and when you come back it almost 40 degrees in side the car and forget about tints it’s from the windscreen at times I bought one of those foil Reflectors to put in the windscreen had fitted at home one day and my next door neighbour said have you fitted a solar panel to the car then cheeky I said.

The App is a “God Send” when the weather is extremely hot and the car has been parked up in direct sun light Les.
Active the HVAC from the App about five minutes before you return to the car and you are all sorted !.
The pleather seats are very sticky in hot weather, they just don’t breath like natural leather or better still a cloth material.
Best config I think I have every had, was pleather vegan pleather for the side bolsters and the soft alcantara material in the seat centre.
It is warm to the touch in the winter and cool in the summer.
Real leather is very cold to the touch in the winter and therefore usually comes with heated seats, for that very reason !.

Right I have made my mind up i an not looking at or reading anymore reviews or videos on the MG4 until either MilesCG or EVM put one out. everyone I have seen and read so far or almost exactly the same pictures included so I have done.
Les
Les something for you to have a look at 🤣:

Yesterday, I got the first chance to see (and sit in) the new MG4 (and facelifted MG5).

First impressions were "wow!"

The quality of the finish was very impressive. This was in Trophy specification, in the new Camden Grey paint colour, with a 64kWh battery. Interior space has been maximised by using a long wheelbase (the MG4 wheelbase is only 15mm shorter than the MG HS). This gives shorter overhangs, with more passenger space compared to traditionally proportioned cars.

The boot was a good size, with a two level floor. No figures were given regarding litre capacity, but it appeared bigger than say Kia Niro Electric.

The rear passenger space is good for 2 adults and a child, with excellent headroom and legroom. Flat floor through the back. No rear courtesy lights though (!).

LED headlights front and rear. No Frunk.

The dashboard design is well laid out, with a quality fit and finish throughout. Clearly this is a car which has been benchmarked against the iD3, but I'd objectively say that this feels more premium.

Under the floating drive-mode selector, there is a storage console with 2 cupholders, a roller-shutter covered large drawer, and a couple of USB sockets.
Behind the drive mode selector is a wireless phone charger (with a removable cover, where you can pass USB cables through if required).

There is no start-stop button on the MG4. To start it, you simply get into the car with the key, and put your foot on the brake.

I have been told by an MG UK engineer that the CCS charging speed on the 51kWh variant is around 90-100kW, and on the 64kWh version it is 120-130kW peak.

Curious about the seating height, some reviews cite the MG4 as a small SUV, others as a compact. Is the car seating low to the ground, or a little more like 'step in' and per many SUVs?

Personally, I much prefer a higher seating position & now having to clamber up, out of the car. My 2021 MG ZS EV is ideal.

Similar to MG5. I don't have the measurements available, but I'll confirm as soon as we get the first demonstrator.

Hi Miles

...

"the apparent inability to turn the car off should you wish to do that and remain in it, perhaps for a nap. Powering it down requires you to get out and lock it. But when you get in again, a seat sensor turns the screens and air-con fan, back on. Hmm."
Not sure why that would be a problem, it's not like you're using any power or emitting anything nasty. You can turn things off if you want such as aircon etc..

I have an Ioniq Classic and the "Ioniq Info" App installed in the car gives me a good overview of the instant power consumption, seperated by "Motor", "AC" "PTC" and "Electronics".

See "Elektrik" for an idea:

When the car is "on standby" the on-board electronics use between 250 and 700W (the higher number when it's topping up the 12V I assume), usually between 300-500 for 'nothing' (the various computers / ECUs, Sensors) Hence it makes sense to switch off everything when not using them.

I further have small kids (primary schoolers, not leaving babies behind) that at times like to stay in the car while I hop into a shop - for them, I would like the ability to control whether I have the car in "ACC" (with Radio and ideally A/C) without a risk of them climbing in front and putting the car into drive, so I'm not sure I like the idea of getting rid of the start button. Curious if/how that'll be possible in the MG4.

Wouldn't they have to put it into drive and press the brake pedal?
