MG4 - First UK dealer hands on photos and specifications

Don't get me wrong, I like the MG5, but if you try an ID.3 it makes the MG seems dated with significantly better packaging - more space inside with less "wasted" under the bonnet. In the case of the ID.3 you get a Passat size interior in a Golf length car. The MG4 promises to be similar, potentially larger inside than the MG5 and with all the toys that the facelift has and more.
In terms of having seen the facelift MG5 or MG4 - they were both launched to dealers at the same date and similar promises have been made about initial deliveries, but there are many deliveries of the current MG5 left to be made first. Let's hope that those all happen soon and there's no difficult situation of new models being delivered first.
My understanding is that MG 4 will come sooner than 5 facelift. As you say, plenty of current shape 5s still to come.

Even for the earliest orders of the new 5, you’re likely looking into 2023

Don't forget the "internal competition" of the MG5. It looks to be a similar size internally, but with a higher spec. than the still not available facelift of the MG5. If they pitch it lower than that I cannot see many people opting for the 5 which will look like exactly what it is - a compromised conversion of a dated ICE design.
The 5 is estate/Station wagon not a suv or hot hatch.

Yesterday, I got the first chance to see (and sit in) the new MG4 (and facelifted MG5).

First impressions were "wow!"

The quality of the finish was very impressive. This was in Trophy specification, in the new Camden Grey paint colour, with a 64kWh battery. Interior space has been maximised by using a long wheelbase (the MG4 wheelbase is only 15mm shorter than the MG HS). This gives shorter overhangs, with more passenger space compared to traditionally proportioned cars.

The boot was a good size, with a two level floor. No figures were given regarding litre capacity, but it appeared bigger than say Kia Niro Electric.

The rear passenger space is good for 2 adults and a child, with excellent headroom and legroom. Flat floor through the back. No rear courtesy lights though (!).

LED headlights front and rear. No Frunk.

The dashboard design is well laid out, with a quality fit and finish throughout. Clearly this is a car which has been benchmarked against the iD3, but I'd objectively say that this feels more premium.

Under the floating drive-mode selector, there is a storage console with 2 cupholders, a roller-shutter covered large drawer, and a couple of USB sockets.
Behind the drive mode selector is a wireless phone charger (with a removable cover, where you can pass USB cables through if required).

There is no start-stop button on the MG4. To start it, you simply get into the car with the key, and put your foot on the brake.

I have been told by an MG UK engineer that the CCS charging speed on the 51kWh variant is around 90-100kW, and on the 64kWh version it is 120-130kW peak.

I see an auto dimming rear view mirror..

Like me. I don't have a dog and like the internal length of estate type bodies, but don't like the compromise on rear leg room. Internally an ID.3 is a similar length to the MG5 but with a shorter and deeper boot but more rear legroom, and from the photos the MG4 is likewise. Otherwise the overall length, width and wheelbase are similar. Looking at the specs from @Miles Roberts CG the MG4 Trophy is better than the MG5 exclusive, yet the "talk" is that the price will be lower.

No. 51kWh will be SE spec only
Then perhaps I must wait to 1000Km.(621 miles) range (semi-solid / solid state) interchangable battery model next year. I think these batteries are safer and long-lasting. And I don't want to give up the 360 cameras and wireless charger.

Now all that’s left, is the height adjustment on the seat belts...🤣
Now we ARE talking about something that the ZS EV - SHOULD have as standard !.
I will take that feature ALL day over the auto dimming rear view mirror.
My wife is a bit vertically challenged ( short 🤫 ) and finds that the front seat belt rubs across the side of her neck.
I was going to say the side of her head, but she's not THAT short :ROFLMAO: ;).

Pricing will be disclosed officially within a few weeks, however I can confirm that previously speculated price points are correct. This is an awful lot of car for significantly less than many competitors.

Demonstrators should land with dealers by September. There are 250 cars landing in August, which is enough for one demonstrator and one showroom car per dealership (nearly).

MG plans to have 2000 MG4 available for delivery in the UK before the end of 2022. We don't yet know which specifications/colours will be available first.
Hi Miles,

What was the speculated price for the smaller battery, povo. spec model again please?

I see mentions that £99 down is already been taken on the ones scheduled for September delivery...is that the case?

Dealers are taking £99 refundable deposits to get you the best chance of getting one this year. I have done this with my dealer. I think Dealer demo vehicles will be September and first customer vehicles October-November.
