Hi all
new member here wanting to make the switch to electric. I'm looking at a roughly 2 year old MG4 Trophy but can't make my mind up between a long range and an extended range.

I don't need the extra range as my journey lengths are rarely in excess of 100 mile round trips, but i notice when reading the stats that the extended range has quite a bit better performance in terms of acceleration and just would like some advice from you guys on the plus or minus of the long range over the extended range please. When looking at used examples, the cost difference isn't that great.

Many thanks.

The ER has a slightly higher power motor in it vs the LR, hence the ~1s faster 0-62 time. In the real world though you won't notice it.

Note: when I was at my dealer last week for my car's 3rd service and first MOT, they asked if I was looking to change ... they currently have £15k off list price for any ER in stock. So that's £21,695 (plus paint colour).

PS - bad luck for tonight. ;) (Toon Toon! Black and White Army!) :D

Thanks
Didn't consider the difference it might make to insurance tbh. Has anyone here driven both an LR and ER version and felt there was no real difference in the day to day performance?

For me, the basic choice was down to mileage. I have family and friends living 200-220 miles away. Even in winter, I know I can get therein my EV without charging en route; I probably wouldn’t make it in bad conditions in an LR.

If I was better informed when buying my MG4 I would've probably gone for the ER, but I do also have to admit that I'm never short on range in my LR Trophy.... The missus suggested I enquire about trading in my LR for an ER, but I don't think I'll bother now to be honest.

Would you now consider the ER for it's increased range or it's increased performance?
Range for me is not the deal breaker.

You've said range is not an issue, so that's ruled out. To be honest the difference in performance, you probably wouldn't notice. So it's all down to price. If you can get an ER for similar price to an LR.
An ER is a no brainer. If an ER is a lot more, then go for an LR. Either way you'll enjoy it. Only my opinion of course. 🙂👍
