MG4 Not fully charging

Best approach is to check for longer periods:

1. Will it take >50% charge increase on another AC charger?

2. Will it take >50% charge increase on granny charger?

3. Will it take >50% charge increase on Rapid DC charger?

If (1) and (2) fail and (3) works, you probably have a CCU failure (which happened to me) or other fault in the charging system. If it works on other AC chargers then it is probably your Zappi at fault.

The CCU fault develops over a few weeks, it starts as an occasional failure to charge fully on AC, then it happens more and more often until it won't even charge for 10 minutes without stopping.
i tried the granny charger and it went from 37 to 55% then stopped ,, for hours , it does charge fine on a tesla dc charger , Garage said they couldnt find fault with the car but given the granny charger wont work and my home 7kw and external pay 7kw charger all wont work , surely the fault must be with the car ? .. getting a bit fed up with an electric car that wont charge !!

all advice appreciated

I am sure this is not the case, but when you charge is the scheduled charge set as the default?
55 - 37 is 18% *0.5 gives 9kw , granny at 1.7 kwph gives 5 1/2 hrs. Round about what a scheduled charge setting may be. Plugging in the 7kw EVSEs the car might be waiting for the start time.
Must say though ,it does sound like a CCU fault. But best to check every option.

Does sound like the CCU fault. It should get worse and therefore be easier for the garage to detect. They probably just threw it on charge for a few minutes, which isn't a good enough test.

You may need to wait until it fails to charge at all on AC and then take it back to the garage to have them retest it. Mine was tested when it failed to charge at all. Failing that, or if it doesn't rapidly get worse, you'll need to explain the problem to the garage again and get them to test it on their charger overnight to trap the problem occurring.

After two visits to the garage, they agreed there was a fault and they replaced the onboard charger and said the car was fixed. tried to charge the car last night ( octopus) and guess what it didn't charge !! i did notice the in car scheduled charge thing was switched off . Does this need to be on to get an over night charge done ?

Does it charge if you Bump it?

Oh dear.

No, you only want to EITHER use the car's scheduling OR use your EVSE's, not both. Most reliable seems to be making sure there is no charging schedule in the car and setting one on your EVSE.

When you say "it didn't charge", do you mean not at all or only a little bit?

Have you tried charging without a schedule while you watch, that should test it?
Can you try another charger just in case you also have a problem with your EVSE?

When the garage replace the onboard CCU, there are also software updates they need to apply correctly, it is possible this hasn't worked or wasn't done properly. I would quickly do your own tests then if that indicates the car is still faulty, take it back to the garage with written evidence of what you've tested and ask them to fix it again.

Intelligent octopus go? Did octopus give you a schedule? What make of charger?

no it didnt charge atoll . excuse my ignorance but is EVSE the electricity supplier or the charger ? what tests should i do myself ? i did try the granny charger and it was fine for the four hours i tried it for

yes intelligent octopus and a zappi charger

Its like that on ours, on IOG it will delay charging, but will be charged by: [your selected time] (I think I can be between 04:00 & 11:00 each day). If you want it charge immediately - tell the system that you have a 120KWh car battery (or set the max charge rate to 3.68Kw) - All in the App - dont go near the MG4 settings. If it stopped while on a granny charger then its likely that you opened the door/boot, sometimes it can forget to restart.

ok - the two tests I suggested with the question marks: ie do an immediate "bump" charge while you watch and see what happens, and try charging on another AC charger - ie neighbour or public Type 2 charging (not a rapid one), such as you get at supermarkets.

If the granny was good then chances are that this just a matter of figuring out the schedule and how to use your IOG set up.

Just for clarity, in the UK, the mains single phase voltage range is 230V - 6% to to 230V + 10%, which works out at 216.2 - 253.0V.

If your voltage is outside this range (as can be measured by a multimeter), call your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) on 105.

I have the same (intelligent Octopus Go). Maybe you know this already, plug into your car, set your Zappi to eco+, unlock your Zappi, no schedules set anywhere.
Set like that on our system it will usually charge very briefly then stop, which you can see in the MyEnergi (Zappi) App. A schedule is then created in the Octopus App and you can set the % of charge required plus the time you need it by.
Sorry if you already know this.

Have you checked that the Zappi software is up to date as I have had a few issues with charging and found that the zappi software had an update that needed installing. I used to get notifications when there was an update available but haven’t had any notifications for ages but yet when I went into the zappi settings there were updates available.
