MG4 Roof rack

I have black Thule Wingbar Evo installed on mine, and it looks pretty good ?Haven't had any issues with wind drag or sounds, so I've just kept them mounted on at all times. Here in Norway the car is rated for 60 kg by MG.

The same is true for the rest of EU/EEA.
Seems to be only in UK they slipped up and forgot to state roof load.

Sorry to resurrect this thread.

The new MG4 brochure which includes the XPower and ER versions now says you can put 50kg on the roof. But only on the XPower and Trophy ER, the SE SR, SE LR and Trophy LR are still rated at 0kg.

I know with the XPower they tweaked suspension and other stuff, which might account for an allowed roof load ... maybe they used the same components in the ER?

Anyone had any news on this or using a roof rack successfully on the MG4 Trophy Long Range. Is it still not rated for UK use?

It's mentioned in the specifications and reviews that the MG4 does not support a roof rack, but I don't fully understand why this is the case. Clearly from the photos, there aren't roof rails for this, but there are other systems for attaching a roof rack that don't require rails. I can't see the added weight being an issue, as the weight of the roof rack is distributed over the side pillars of the car which should be able to take that load (if not, then is the car crushed into a pancake if turned over under its own weight during an accident, as an example???).

Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you.

There are several high quality roof racks on the market designed for the MG4. Suggest checking out the Cruz roof racks (among others).

The problem is as was mentioned previously and that MG UK don't seem to have done anything about it (there's a surprise!)

It may be able to carry some load, but it's not specified to carry any load (as yet)? So fitting a roof rack would be a breach of the Customs & Use regulations, and possibly void your insurance? (In the UK anyway).

Hmm. This has stopped me ordering an MG4 ev today. The garage confirmed -someone else had queried it - and no, they said it wouldn't take roof bars. Looking at other cars now. ?

That's odd. We're in France but we had no problem with our garage supplying MG roof bars made for the MG4, with clear instructions where to place them on the roof to ensure secure support. I only use mine to carry skis, but there is clear guidance on what load they can bear.

All redundant in the UK as has been stated MG UK hasn't approved the car for a roof load, you could always do it but if any issues arose MG UK would just back out of any warranty cover (like they need a reason)
An insurance company would also refuse to pay out if they got wind off it, they are always looking for an excuse to try and not pay out on policies.

An insurance company, even in the UK as I used to live there, would have to prove that a roof rack (in this example of a claim) was a key component to any claim. I had some people claiming that if I put different sized wheel rims and winter tyres on my old BMW that my insurance would be invalidated. Utter tosh, even the insurance company I was with weren't bothered when I phones up to check that claim. Same with motorcycle tyres.

So looks like I will need to contact my insurance company and see what they say I guess. Within their rights to say NO as MG UK cant be bothered to get approval. Just got to love being an MG owner....

I've had a definitive no back from my insurer LV. They referred it to the technical and underwriting team and you are not able to get cover if not approved for use in the UK. Anyone who does use one, be careful!
