MG4 Software Update Thread

I really don't know why MG doesn't just have a fixed price schedule for non-essential/safety updates.
Exactly! Depending on the conversation I have with them at my 40K service, I will make it clear I'm willing to pay a reasonable charge to have the LKA/ELK improved. Time is money. I get that.

It's such a shame they never rolled out the OTA update capability. Ah well. Such is life.

@T1 Terry @Jamesrr @wattmatters @Corindikev how does the ACC function on your MG4s? Do you get slowdown in sweeping bends? Can you change the target speed by 1 or 5 kph?

The purpose of this request is to show whether or not @Cabansail's dealer/service agent was indeed lying about the ACC update not being available in Australia. :)
I have 5km increments with each press but it always increments to the next multiple of 5km. eg. If I am travelling at 110kmh & come to an 80 kmh speed sign, I slow down & hit the ACC button & it say reads 82kmh one press down & it goes to 80 kmh or 1 press up it goes to 85 kmh. Holding the button up or down & it increments quite quickly at 1kmh & stops when the button is released.

It does slow down on bends but on motorways not much as they are relatively gentle. On winding roads it does slow down & if improved could be a good idea but sometimes it does not slow enough for a bend and I need to brake or turn ACC off to negotiate the bend safely.

This has been the same from new as no software updates have been done yet. This is covered in the MG 4 in Australia thread. MG have recently given dealers a directive that Software Updates are not to be carried out during a scheduled service when previously this was specified.

I argued the point with the dealer that when I booked the car in for service (40,000km), software updates were listed in the schedule so they should have been done. The fact that the directive had been made prior to my service was invalid in my case as when my on line booking was done & accepted that is when contract terms are locked in. They then agreed & the car is going back for the updates on the 26th of November. These are to include ELK, ACC & Infotainment upgrades including the Satnav route planner.

There are some other niggles such as the car forgetting the bluetooth connection with my phone & I have to pair it again & occasionally losing all of the ACC, ELK, forward collision etc functions while cruising on the motorway. This has happened maybe 5 or 6 times in the last year.

IMO in my case it was a necessary safety update as my LKA/ELK was at time dangerous.

There was one spot in particular on Waterfall Way where it would attempt to steer me into oncoming traffic, take me onto/over the centre line before I'd need to reef the wheel back. Brown pants stuff. Once right at an oncoming semi trailer, another time a bus.

Whether it was really bad software or poorly calibrated I don't know but it's behaving far better now.

The infotainment update would be nice to have because of the way the screen will still display the header line info while Carplay is active. The short cut to disable ELK would be handy but as I say, the need for it has diminished.

It doesn't have clue about corners as far as I can tell, depending on the number of green bars as to how close it gets in time behind the vehicle in front.
It is clueless about traffic lights .... The speed changes 1km/h with short clicks, 5km/h with a longer click, but this has to be very carefully timed to avoid multiple +5km/h ... but on the other hand, is great for ramping up or down the speed quickly.
The use of the accelerator overrides the cruise control for overtaking and doesn't suddenly drop back to the chosen speed, which is a good thing in my opinion ......

I will be asking for the equivalent of the SC077 update, as while the LKA/ELK isn't terrible, it also is annoying enough that on long journeys I do use the pull down menu to disable ELK. I never bother turning it off around town though.
That's because it doesn't kick in until you're doing over 60kph, which you wouldn't around town.

Corners, without any other traffic, definitely do have an effect. Speed set to 80kph and in a corner I drive regularly it drops down to 65kph. This is a corner I have gone through at 120kph in a '95 Landrover Defender. So asking the MG4 to go through at 80 is not a stretch.

The other thing which can soil the britches is when it suddenly slows because of a car in the oncoming lane.

Good car but needs refinement.

That one where a vehicle heading the other way scares the MG4, seems to happen more to my wife than it does to me ..... might be related to how close she drives to the centreline, where I drive more to the edge of the road because driving the Winnie as well as the bigger trucks requires keeping the max space between you and the oncoming vehicle, clipping mirrors certainly scares you traveling at 100km/h ..... and it becomes a tad expensive as well ......
