MG4 Software Update Thread

Interesting about the station icons ... in my car with SE 1100R33 only the BBC stations show icons.

I got updated to R59 this week after complaining about Bluetooth connections dropping out and the inability to precondition the cabin if the car was still plugged in from charging. Both issues now fixed.
The HVAC screen has been update with bigger icons, Apple CarPlay is now oriented correctly with the menu on the drivers side and there is a small bar at the top showing MG details (fog lights, music playing, temperature, mobile signal etc).
The radio stations now show the proper station icons, and there is a route planner option on the second screen. Not sure what else has changed, my car was delivered April 2023 and was still on original software so some of these things might be fixed on previous releases.
Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the changes with R59?

Your profile shows you as driving an SE SR, but obviously from this post you have some flavour of Trophy. Could you update your profile?

Do you mean you can open the iSmart app but it won't show the car's battery range and percentage?

It could be because MG's servers are down.

If you need to log in to the app use the same details as before. You don't need to bind to the car again.

MEs excuses pour mon francais - Mais Normalment ( comme @Ian Key a traduis) normalment tu n as pas besoins de liee de nouveau la voiture avec le code QR . Elle est deja liee - rentre seulment ttes donnes comme avant ( utilisateur ou numero gsm /motpasse)
Si tu as un problemme - fait un clean de la app( ou deseinstalle et re installe - et rentre te donnes utilise avant ( utilisateur/mot passe)
ca doit suffir. Apres un refresh ca doit montrer les donnes de la voiture( sinon les serveurs de MG sont down et il faut attendre q'ils revienne)

My apologies for my French - But Normally (as @Ian Key translated) normally you don't need to link the car again with the QR code. It is already linked - only enters all data as before (user or mobile number / password)If you have a problem - clean the app (or uninstall and reinstall - and enter the data used before (user/password)that must be enough. After a refresh it should show the car's data (otherwise the MG servers are down and you have to wait for them to come back)

To reiterate the comment from Coulomb, this is an English language forum so any language conversion necessary must be done by the poster, not the reader. Incidentally, I routinely find that non native speakers have a better grasp of our language than some born and bred in the UK!

Not when the moderators do not speak the language but need to understand every message to do their job here.

We want to make everyone, including non English speakers, feel welcome, but it is they who must go to the effort of translating their messages in to English rather than expecting the moderators to.

Also in the engineer menu where you can start the update, there are several options. Do you choose infotainment?

Any other info about this procedure would be smashing

I've managed to get in using python and unpack the payload bin file. I now have quite a few img files. I cannot be bothered to go much further today. Thanks to Deanicus for sharing!

I used MTKExtractor and ext2explore to have a nosey around at the .apks but I haven't had the time this week to go much further. Tempted to update the infotainment (as I'm only on 1300R30)

I've managed to do the same on linux

• extract the img files from the payload.bin ( tool available in Releases · tobyxdd/android-ota-payload-extractor)
• and then mount the img files ( the system.img and vendor.img)

It's all used to do a FULL android update type A/B.
After mounting the img you can see all structure of the android system .
I've extracted some apk they use on the infotainment system, and I've tried to Run some from a android studio Android vm ( MG ANDROID is based on android 9-sdk 28 - and the hardware running the infotainment is based on a MEdiaTek mt2712 - Autus i20 - https://www.mediatek.com/products/ivi/mt2712 ) but without success.

I think to run iit needs some Certificates in the VM that i havent managed to find ( even in system.img/system/apps/theres a certinstaller.apk)
Since I 'm not a android programmer I'm now stuck...
