MG4 Software Update Thread

Yes.. all of the cars control systems are not related to the USB Update for the Infotainment. Only a small portion which interacts with the Modules is in the Infotainment usb update. The Car Modules (BMS, ECU, BCM ..) are updated via SIPS though the OBD Interface. Update for LKA are as well only installed via SIPS... So while updating the Infotainment the rest of the car is still "old" in SW Update
Oh it sounds like beyond me

Exactly, that’s what I meant. If a car is still running on R13, the other ECUs are probably outdated. It’s worth upgrading them as well. Unfortunately, this can’t be done via USB. You’ll need either a VNCI dongle, a computer, and access to SIPS (which isn’t free), or you’ll have to visit a dealer and ask them to perform the upgrades, especially SC077, which significantly improves TJA and LKA behaviour.

How can I find my current sips version?

And with a paid license for a few hours or days you are able to do Software Updates for the ECUs on your own. I won't recommend this if you are not good with Computers and stuff related to Car Electronics. Usually this Tool is not for private persons, it is intended for MG/SAIC Car Service technicians. SIPS is quite slow and with the VNCI not always stable. I would recommend to ask your dealer for support and tell them the issues the car has, should be quite a few when original R13 was installed.

Have been away for a few months, and about to return to the MG4 and its 1st service ;)
It is a 51kWh MG4 SE SR, picked up May 2024. I think there were changes in MY23 e.g. rear wiper which it has.
The MPU Software is SW169-29958-1100R33 - I think I saw late 2024 this thread said there was a R38 update, and I think I now see R40 (?)
The MCU Software is 69.3.8.0 - again I think I saw here late 2024 there is now 69.4.4.0.

Any updates to my knowledge welcome, what I might expect / could ask for at the service, and what they will offer. Apologies for the dumb questions - I was on top of these issues :(

I have the same model. Installing R38 or R40 only makes sense if you also update the HVAC and FICM modules via SIPS. It improves temperature control for the A/C, but you’ll lose the pull-down menu in CarPlay and Android Auto.

New ECUs update : FDR, HVAC and EPS.
It looks like there is ACC or TJA improvement.
And for HVAC I don't know, maybe a fix for those having issues with hot weather...

Is that not the update to improve HVAC performance, aligned with the 1100R38 and 1300R63 Info updates which rescale the temperature control range?

I don't think, the R38 and R63 update was release late 2024. I got this after R63 in December and HVAC was totally improve at this moment.

So I think it's a fix for some MG4 or an improvement. One way or another, it's a good thing

Got my second service in fex days, hope my dealer will perform them. If they don't, I'll do them myself and tell you if anything change

Not that I know for sure, but it should finally fix the Bluetooth pairing issues. This was stated by someone here. The same case for the R40 standard MG4s.

Hi there

Coming from the ZS EV subforum so please be gentile. :)

I have read through a bit of this massive thread and see mentions of updating the infotainment via USB stick, is this understood correctly.

What are the reqirements for this and would anyone know if the ZS EV (2022+ version) supports this as well.

If yes, what's needed and where to get the files.

My ZS EV was delivered in January 2025 and supposedly had the latest R25 firmware, but now i hear rumors about an R27 version and as such the car "should" be able to do this automatically OTA, but i never saw any actual OTA updates for the car.

So, sorry for budging in, but does anyone know if something can be done to update the Infotainment firmware myself.

PS. i have succesfully updated the satnav maps via USB, so it does do something via USB atleast ;)

I am specifically hoping the update would fix a problem i have where, if the car is parked in the driveway outside the kitchen window, it will sometimes randomly (Not charging, car should be asleep) wake up and "hijack" a phone call i am engaged in, in the kitchen. (Suddenly the phone jumps on the cars bluetooth and i can not hear them ;) )

Ps. I see mentions of what changes are in what versions, where do you get those ? (Would be nice to know what's been updated to know if it was worth the bother to do the update.......A spelling error in Chinese is not something i would bother with upgrading for :) )
