MG4 Software Update Thread

Hey all,

New to all this and taking ownership of an Nov 2023 MG4 Trophy Long Range in the coming days and am totally lost with all these individual updates. Is there a single list that shows ALL the systems/modules in the car and what their latest version should be, apologies if I have not seen this but any help would be appreciated so I'm clear what to ask the dealer for.

There are a lot of modules, this is a short list that can easily be upgraded by the dealer with the One-press feature.
Be sure also to have the latest infotainment version installed (to date it’s R67)…

Hi everyone, I'm Roberto from Italy. I've had an MG4 for a year and I'm very satisfied. I have the standard version with an R21 MPU. Can I update the MCU and MPU to R33 using just the USB? Are there any other procedures I need to do with the SIPS? I don't have the SIPS with the dongle, I'm afraid it might cause problems. Thanks

No problem, but you will only benefit from the infotainment upgrades.
the latest version is not R33 but R40 by the way.

SWI69-29958-1100R40 exactly…
I read that the latest version is r40 but since I can't update the other components with sips I was thinking of switching to r33, what do you think?

There’s no need to limit yourself to R33. R40 still retains backwards compatibility with the other ECUs; many cars on the roads are actually quite outdated, with dealers being reluctant to perform full upgrades. (Mostly because it’s time consuming).

Upgrading MCU and MCU takes about 10/15 minutes. There are many resources in this thread, but feel free to ask if you still need further clarification.

Personally, I tend to install the MPU first, followed by the MCU, though I don’t believe the order makes much difference. I’ve experimented with various combinations, including some rather unusual MCU/MPU pairings, and versions designed for AUS/NZ or east asian markets, without encountering any issues (apart from features not working).

A few pics of some exotic releases on my SE/Standard MG4 here :)

Did you flash Luxury software too? Any issues with that combo?

I tried R59 and then R63 for a few months. It took a bit of tweaking to get everything working—maps and weather included. (You can look back on this threads around pages 210/230)

But in the end, I reverted to the stock software, as I found out I was not using the integrated navigation that much.

thats cool! What about fatures like reversing camera and safety stuff in the menus? Is that still present but not working (since there's no actual hardware present) or is software aware of this and doesn't show them.

Some advanced features were greyed out, and the reverse camera, of course, wasn’t displayed. Instead, I had the reverse warnings in one corner and a large image of the vehicle in place of the camera view. Sorry, I don’t have a better picture.

so that's basically the same as with the original software sans the greyedout stuff.
