MG4 Software Update Thread

One issue I've had since I got the car, when I get in, if I dare press the brake before I close the door it gets into a reboot loop and won't respond for a good 15-20 seconds before I can engage drive. Is this normal?

I had similar problem, but it appears to vanish after some updates/upgrades. So check if you have latest modules/FW.

So I recently took delivery of the MG4 I now drive. 64 kWh Luxury model with 11 km when it arrived.
Now onto the question: It's currently running SWI133-29176-1300R32. Since I got my MG through a subscription / long-term rental service I imagine It'd be at least mildly annoying to install via the dealer.

I'm sure I could figure out a way to get it updated but are there any meaningful changes made since the version I'm running?

U got a 2024 MG4 (V3) so infotainment build is different (not SWI68, SWI133 as you said)
So you got the late software we saw lately (I think there is a R36 fot 2024 Luxury/Trophy but not sure), if there's something not updated, it's ECU and you need dealer for that

Don't worry until everything stop working fine

Fix BT issue for some (like me) have this.

Fun fact, I got BT pairing issue (with disconnections during calls, phone still connected to FICM but nothing works, sometimes it came back by itself but most of time, I have to grab my phone, switch to speaker then to BT and call return to BT FICM), I installed R67 for a couple of weeks, then reverted to R63 2 weeks ago. Still got disconnections during calls but no more pairing issues so far...

I had my 2 year service recently. I had a few hardware issues, each of which were intermittent. These were the drivers door button, rear camera and charge port LED's. Each of these were "not seen in workshop" so nothing done.
Also requested all software updated. There has to be something new in two years. They said there was nothing, and the abhorrent ACC is a design feature (apparently) as washing off 15kph in a corner is for my safety. AFAIK the speed should be reduced before the corner and then power applied in the corner.
There was quite the whiff of BS in the air. Think I may request the warranty items and a software check when I get the tow-bar fitted at another dealer, the one that sold the car to the original owner.

The local place were the ones that quoted way more than the tow-bar parts price to fit it. The other dealer confirmed the kit mainly bolts in and the loom just plugs in. They allowed 2 hrs labour, not all day.

Your dealer/service agent lied ... ACC was fixed for me more than 2 years ago.
@Cabansail is in Australia so maybe the fix hasn't been available there?

Having had my 3rd service done in February the dealer failed to do the SCUK0077 update despite claiming, when I picked it up, that it had been done. I had also asked them to sort the ACC slowing down excessively in corners but was told I would have to pay the diagnostic fee and if no fault was found it would not be refunded.

Last week I had my 4th service done and they did actually do the SCUK0077 update this time. Guess what - it doesn't slow down in corners on ACC anymore and the button now increases the speed in 1mph increments instead of 5mph.

And that's what p****s me off with the dealers.

I'm pretty sure others in Australia have had the ACC update. 🤷‍♂️

It's very easy to tell ... if a single tap up/down of the left joystick changes the target speed by 5 (mph or kph) then the car has not had the update, so will slow down unreasonably in even gentle, sweeping bends.

But if the dealers in Aus are like the UK ones they will say it's not a fault but a characteristic i.e. all the early ones do that, so if you want it updating and improving you will have to pay for it.

Then we should say that we don't pay for servicing, but that's not a fault with us, just a characteristic.

I queried the lack of updates when I knew they are available. They spun me a line that the decrease in speed is part of the ANCAP safety rating. Sudden deceleration in a corner is not safe. It actually adds to instability.
Yes, my ACC shifts by 5kph now.
My 11 year old Mazda did not slow down with its ACC. It was safe with 5 Stars.

@T1 Terry @Jamesrr @wattmatters @Corindikev how does the ACC function on your MG4s? Do you get slowdown in sweeping bends? Can you change the target speed by 1 or 5 kph?

The purpose of this request is to show whether or not @Cabansail's dealer/service agent was indeed lying about the ACC update not being available in Australia. :)

After my service in September the ACC and ELK functions were improved. In my request for service booking (two months ahead) I specifically reported persistent and ongoing issues with it, describing its behaviour in detail. I also reported an erroneous emergency braking but that I experienced once.

ACC changed to 1 km/h increments for a short up/down tap and 5 km/h increments for a longer press up/down of the joystick. That actually works quite well know. Previously the 5 km/h increments were fine but attempting to make 1 km/h increment changes was nigh on impossible.

The ACC also does not slow down when driving on curves like the previous version did and is much better on the highways / dual carriageways.

ELK is much improved. I still get the occasional erroneous warning but nothing like the previous version which was undriveable on our relatively crummy local roads, constantly trying to pull me off the road and sometimes into oncoming traffic.

I did not get the infotainment system update though, so there is no quick disable of the ELK. Fortunately the car is now such that I no longer need to disable it.

It's going in this week for warranty repairs, the undertray bulge fix and driver's seat creaking. I did ask about the infotainment update but I have a feeling that will be a fight.

I really don't know why MG doesn't just have a fixed price schedule for non-essential/safety updates.

The ACC on both our MG4s (One an Excite 51 AKA SE SR and the other a Long Range 77 AKA Trophy ER) does 1kph for a short tap and 5kph for a long tap on the toggle. We do not get the slowdown on sweeping bends.

I very occasionally do get a slow down on some bends but it's not typical behaviour.

My 77 is an MY23 car and my wife's is a later MY24 car. Whilst we purchased them only a month apart the software is essentially at the same level even though they were manufactured quite a time apart. They were both taken to the MG "service centre" in Homebush for the pre-delivery setup were I believe they both got the latest software available at the time installed.

When I had to take my 77 to the centre a couple of months ago to get the "service time" warning reset to 40,000 kms (it had erroneously been set to 20,000 kms) I was chatting to the guy in charge and he mentioned that the MG Managing Director had an Orange X-Power that they looked after with a rego of "XPOWER".

I suspect that given they look after the MDs car they can keep the software up to date if you know how to ask nicely ;)

I will find this out within the next couple of months as I am closing rapidly on the 40,000 km mark. Our next long trip across to the beach house and back in January should do it.

I will be asking for the equivalent of the SC077 update, as while the LKA/ELK isn't terrible, it also is annoying enough that on long journeys I do use the pull down menu to disable ELK. I never bother turning it off around town though.
