MG4 Software Update Thread

Even removing the ground from the 12V battery didn't seem to power down much... Somehow the entertainment system stayed powered on. Maybe I didnt leave it long enough, but I guess its taking power from the HV system via some transformer into the LV system?

@AdamskiEM Hmm, that really doesn’t sound good. I wouldn’t have expected such a large version jump to cause this without a SIPS update. There is a guide in the RMI documents that explains how to properly disconnect the 12-volt battery. If I remember correctly, there are two methods: one “conventional” way and one for emergencies. I’ll check the files in a moment — I think I saved the document in my favorites. Please stay calm and definitely don’t get the idea to touch the high-voltage system yourself.

EDIT: The "emergency" way of disconnecting is only for the high voltage battery.

Please keep us updated.

@DonBattino452 Thanks for this. Looks like I got lucky. I had the idea overnight to just pull the fuses instead which is a lot safer. I did that just now and once the system rebooted itself it went back into the engineering menu itself, said that the update failed again but this time the version was not missing, and all the other controls are working again! Thanks for your suggestions

What fuses did you pull? Could be useful if anyone else finds themselves in this situation.

MCU is still there for SWI69 build (R33, R38, R40, R42)
But not for SWI68 build since R63
MCU file is there, but from R38 is in fact the same as R33, so not really updated ? I assumed that starting with R38 you need SIPS to update the MCU to the right version.

24 and 8.

Unfortunately CarPlay is not working.. At least the screen isn't showing the button as lit up.. The phone seems to think its connected.

I managed to update to R67, but MCU is still 68.4.3.0. Do we think that is the reason it's not working?

The Google Drive only has a few specific versions in the FCIM folder.. I guess I need SIPS to update to the actual recent one.

I confirm you don't wait long enough. You need to wait until the screen turns off and you can plug the ground.

Updated all my modules today via SIPS and got a new MCU for FICM: 68.5.2.0

Maybe this should be for the next R version ? I already updated MCU last week to 68.4.9.0

R69 is already out. Unfortunately, with the latest r42 version of the standard there is an ❌ in SIPS. Reprogramming fails. With the previous version, everything works ✅. Maybe it’s the same with R67 and R69?

Last week I updated MCU for R67. Today I was still on R67, but I saw the ❌ on Calibration File and did the update and worked. Last week I definitely got 68.4.9.0 from SIPS and today I got 68.5.2.0

What difference has this made to the driving/operation of the car? What, if any, issues were resolved by the update?

does the r42 standart package MG4 come with the v 68.4.3.0 version ? can it be installed on R69 version ?

sorry my engilish not good : )

@Tuareg don't know what is new

@serkancelenk R38/40/42 is for SWI69 and R63/67/69 is for SWI68. The MCU versions are/should be also separate. Starting with R38 for SWI69 and R63 for SWI68, MCU can be updated via SIPS only. I think higher MCU versions are compatible with lower MPU versions(for the same SWI)

I think there should be a match between MPU and MCU
For example, for R63 the matching MCU should be 68.4.7.0
For R67 the matching MCU should be 68.4.9.0
But if you have 68.4.9.0, it is also compatible with R63
Maybe this new 68.5.2.0 should be for R69, but is compatible with R67
I have a MY22 Luxury so I don't know as much for SE/Standard

Could be also a posibility that MCU update availability is also dependant on other updated modules ?

It could be that SAIC — or more specifically MG — is now standardizing this in SIPS across the different models. Maybe Standard models will also be allowed to update the MCU via SIPS. After all, the version numbers in SIPS aren’t set in stone; the database will eventually be updated. This all sounds very exciting 🤓, and the community naturally relies on different users with different model variants sharing their SIPS experiences. Only then can a comprehensive picture of the current SIPS update situation be formed.

I found this on a Danish MG4 forum. The user has just had their car updated.
The car is from February 4, 2025.
No further details are provided.
Has anyone heard about this update?
And what, if anything, does it fix?
