MG4 Software Update Thread

So I went to my dealer yesterday. I was complaining to the fact that my car had more than a year since I bought it and had no GPS service. My service center is "Country Motors" in Barranquilla, Colombia.

Technician first used SIPS to update some modules but as expected, the problem did not go away.
The name ‘Country Motors’ reminds me of the good old GTA San Andreas days. My buddies @jamakr4 @DonBattino452 and I feel like we’ve been taken back in time.

Ah shit! Here we go again…🤣

Car updated to SWI69-29958-1100R45 today ... only took 10 minutes tops (including resetting radio favourites and setting Dark theme). :)

I also checked SOH via Car Scanner while I was on ... 90.66% it said. (3.5 years old from build date).
@siteguru did you have to do SIPS as well for Tbox or did you manage to do everything via USB in the end? Sorry if I missed this in one of your threads!

Thanks. Now I only wish SAIC/MG will pay attention to our markets and activate the I-Smart app which has never worked around here. This is one of my main complaints about my vehicle.
It only works sporadically here, and nothing if the car's been inactive for a while.
Yesterday, a friend who owns a BYD told me angrily that an OTA update took him two hours; I was about to slap him. 🤣🤣

I didn't update the TBox as I'm not having any issues with it. You also need SIPS to do it, even with the USB part being available. (This is mentioned earlier in the thread as I recall).

I only did the 1100R45 update.

I've not noticed anything negative with it so far. The only observation I have is that R38 would default to the MG Pilot (2nd) tab when you pressed the Car icon; R45 defaults to the 1st tab. So I now have an additional tap when using the car, because I always turn off LKA audible alerts. :)

You can disable LKA from the quick drop down menu

cool! did you do any other module updates? im currently running R40 and i've updated the whole car about 6months ago.

I wonder if anyone has experienced issues with the TJA/LKA after their SC077 update?

Scheduled with my local dealer to install any and all available updates to my car (Trophy ER) when I have my scheduled 1st year maintenance in a few weeks time. I have already had the SC077 and R67 updates installed previously, so the car should be pretty much up-to-date on all fronts.

Despite those updates I've found that on long journeys the TJA/LKA tends to start drifting and swaying between the lines and even crossing them on its own and then getting upset about it.

TJA/LKA works perfectly fine to start with, but then after a bit of driving (15 minutes, an hour, who knows?) of continuous motorway driving it starts acting up. Quite often if I'm not even holding the steering wheel at all the car will steer towards the edge of the lane and eventually start beeping because it itself drove too close to it. And sometimes it blatantly drives over the lines even when the cruise and TJA/LKA are all active and lit up as green on the dash. Only after the car has crossed the line over to the other lane or worse, the hard shoulder, will the cruise disengage.

Toggling cruise/LKA off separate and back on again sometimes helps alleviate the situation, sometimes not. The effect tends to be more aggressive/noticeable when actively steering myself with the car seemingly on these occasions fighting against me trying to keep the car centered between the lines - driving me crazy and makes me turn off TJA when using the cruise on long journeys. I've noticed and recorded this behavior to happen mostly on left-handed turns and when coming from a turn onto a straight.

Oh and these were something that I've noticed now while wintering with the car in southern Spain where there is good weather, well-maintained roads with clear markings.

The only thing I find with TJA (when on the motorway) is that it'll drift towards the lane line, turn the line red on the screen and beep at me ... even though it is TJA itself which is doing it! 🤦‍♂️ (I always turn off LKA warning sound but leave LKA on. The sound I get in TJA is because of TJA itself).

Other than that I find it OK, but I don't use TJA that often. LKA isn't designed to steer for you, so it bouncing between lane lines would be expected. TJA should do a lot better though - it should be trying to keep you central to the lane.

Glad to hear it (or not, as it would indicate that it is a broader issue). And yes, TJA is the actual culprit here and not LKA. Will need to inform my local dealer of this as well, and hope for the best that the latest updates provide some improvement on TJA as well..
