MG4 Trophy in Volcano Orange, collecting before end SeptemberšŸ¤ž

Ordered straight away in August - or so I thought - just had my dealer confirm that a Trophy will not be available for me until November at the earliest - they are receiving 5 from the batch of 1000 UK wide - and the 5 they are getting have all been allocated elsewhere. Any dealers with stock coming who have not yet been allocated to pre-orders - anybody know?
What dealer. I've had the same thing. And no communication. I had to enquire as to what was going on. Then just got palmed off by the sales person. Not impressed. They know we're stuck. Refund and you have to wait even longer.

I am not going to mention the dealer name - up-to this point I was happy with the customer service received. But I am on the list with another Franchise now with a firm hold on one of theirs - its an SE but I can resign myself to that - another refundable deposit given and now a little more optimistic to be driving an MG by the end of September - and in Red too (my preferred colour). I am lucky enough to be a cash purchaser - and I do wonder if that might be why I was bumped (no PCP / finance credits for the dealer(?)) - because I was originally told I was first too place an order with my local dealer.

If you read through the posts on this forum it's been pointed out that MG HQ have just given an allocation of cars to dealers and it's not related to what's actually been ordered. The dealer can't supply you even if they've put the order in, it's not their fault. They may be poor communicators but give them a break, I'm sure they'd love to supply everyone a car that wants one.

I have an order in for a Genesis at the moment, a car almost double the cost of an MG4. The communication is petty dreadful, worse than I've had from the MG dealer

Did Genesis not assigned you a personal assistant whom you could call and text for any queries you might have? Mine was pretty good, answered my queries even late in evening.
I placed an order for one after I went down to Westfield to look at the Genesis. Delivery was expected to be around November, I really looked forward to it until I took a test drive, car was very quiet probably had something to do with noise cancelling feature, the augmented reality navigation was really cool and it was a little wider than Iā€™d have liked, my works car park is a little tight, last thing I want is a dink in the bodywork!
Unfortunately, the real deal breaker for me was the 17 speaker Bang Olufsen system, lack clarity and bass, so I cancelled it.
I hope the MG4 6speaker HD SOUND decentšŸ˜‚

The key to your experience was being able to visit the "experience centre" in Westfield. Otherwise they have a long backlog on test drives, you could try booking one now but will not hear from them at all for several weeks. They do special events around the country usually at golf courses but again it's a long wait.

Ordering is okay online but just a basic email that doesn't indicate expected delivery or next steps. Never spoke to my PA, emailed but then someone else calls. Give me a normal localish showroom anyday. Polestar and Tesla seem to have it right.

The width is too wide, but all cars are getting this way. MG4 is just 5cm narrower.

I went down to Westfield to see the car in the fresh, I didnā€™t test drive it, and I did have to wait about 6 weeks before a test drive, someone brought the car up to my house, Genesis is supposed to be a luxury brand start up, so I think they will eventually have showrooms around the country depending on how successful they going to be?
It really is no difference to how Tesla started up.
As for the width, Genesis quoted 1890mm, my Tesla 1849mm and MG4 1838mm, so itā€™s actually 6cm wider, itā€™s 5cm wider than my Tesla, but it made a huge difference, you can tell from my pic, it looks considerably wider.

Tesla as soon as they had Model S had several showrooms around the country, Genesis has one but at least people close can see the car. They won't be successful if most of the country can't see a car and waits 6 weeks for a test drive.

My maths might not be great but 1890 - 1838 is 52mm or 5.2cm so that's pretty close to 5cm.

Back to the MG4. It's wider than other models of MG, its the way it's going.

I think Tesla started off with just 2 showrooms both in London, i test drove one (P85)in Warrington when they had one of those driving events just like what Genesis is doing now.
I eventually ordered a P85D from Tesla , waited 12 mths for one, fairly sure I was probably first one in Manchester who owned one back in 2015!
Iā€™m embarrassed with my maths there! Couldnā€™t even subtract properly!šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø
Agreed that cars seems to be getting wider, especially EVs.

I get that people like to have more interior space in their cars.
I get that if you want a proper 5-seater, the car has to be a certain width without it feeling too cramped.
And let's be honest, people are getting wider. I know I am!

But the roads are not wider, so the fact that virtually every new car is now over 2 metres when you include the exterior mirrors is not ideal. Makes any journey down a D road or country lane a little more challenging!
MG4 is 1836mm wide, and 2060mm wide with mirrors.
MG ZS EV is 1809mm wide, and 2048mm wide with mirrors.
The new MG5 EV is 1818mm wide, and 2059mm wide with mirrors.

I'm guessing the new Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) architecture SAIC has developed is a little wider to better accommodate the battery, with the blades being deployed horizontally within the packs to achieve the low 110mm height.

PS. I gave up on Genesis as well due to test drive scheduling issues, and they do not have sufficient back office staff to support their UK expansion plans. They have some growing pains to get through, but I hope they succeed as the UK needs a greater choice of good EVs.

Funny how the US has huge wide roads and huge Costco size parking spaces, their cars are getting smaller while our cars are getting bigger and wider in little Britain. šŸ˜†

It has also to do with safety, crumple zones, space for airbags etc etc. Driving an old mini (I used to have an 850) is a very scary experience for me these days, I feel extremely vulnerable. The death rates in accidents have reduced substantially since Volvo started the ball rolling. American car industry was very slow to get on board with safety, they specialised in a lovely spear like protrusion in the middle of the steering wheel ...ouch

Car colours have always been an issue for me. I don't like most car colours and detest any variant of blue, green or silver.
Some of the time I haven't had a choice about car colour. My first car was a white and brown Morris Marina estate!
Given a choice, I've always gone for red except for my Ioniq, at which time I really wanted white.
Now I have a Tesla, I went for red again because I'm bored of seeing white Teslas.
Although gun metal grey and black look good.
There's a stunning looking orange/gold Celica near us. Normally I'd balk at orange, but it very much depends on the tone of the paint and the car itself.
Of all the colours for the MG4, I think orange looks the best followed by red :)

Ahh, Morris Marina estate, I had one in red.

Only put my refundable deposit down on Saturday for Orange or Grey. I need to get inside the car to decide, I'm in favour of the Born, but the difference in price iis enough to look seriously at the MG4. Also on the priority list for the new Megane, which had it not been a nerfed spec (compared to Europe) would have been fantastic.

I believe Renault is going to regret their decision to make so much change to the spec for the UK. There are plenty of options out there in the price and WLTP range of the Megane. It won't sell half as well as it would have had they left certain key things alone. It was on my shortlist until I found out what they'd done.

Only to a very small extent. Most of the increase in size is a marketing thing where they are pushing that bigger means safer. It doesn't, and the opposite is partly true as it makes people feel invulnerable and drive with less care.

Partly due to the fact that people generally become more risk averse as they get older, and partly due to the ever increasing numbers of badly driven excessively large vehicles. Personal mobility, be it walking, cycling or illegal e-scooters all have to share space with cars and have no such protection.

Surely it was the only way that they could get the price down to a competitive point? The Ariya shows what happens when you don't.
