HI ALL
IM A NEWBIE ON HERE
SO HERE GOES
BOUGHT MY MG5 LR AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER
I WENT FOR THE EXCLUSIVE LR (IN WHITE) BECAUSE OF THE ROOF RAIL WEIGHT
MUST ADMIT AFTER 150 MILE ROUND TRIP IN MY FIRST WEEK TO THE COAST AND BACK USING MG PILOT THE EXTRA FOR THE MG PILOT SEEMS WORTH IT LOVED USING IT
I HAVE BOUGHT THE MANABO BRIO ROOF BARS
SO IM JUST WONDERING WHAT KIND AND SIZE OF ROOF BOX HAS ANYONE PUT ON THEIR MG5
AS WE GO CAMPING/GLAMPING WITH 2 STAFFIES (THE BOOT IS THEIRSπŸ˜‚)
I MOVED FROM A 2012 CMAX TITANIUM TO MG5 AND I DEFINITELY WOULDNT GO BACK TO AN ICE CAR NOW AND IVE HAD 53 ICE CARS SINCE PASSING MY TEST IN 1985
IM LOVING THE MG5

Hi Ian, and welcome to the forum,
WoW 53 cars in 35 years you must be the guy that changed his car each time the ash tray was full or it ran out of fuel yeh, LOL, that’s.a Lot of cars.

So to your question I have no idea what size roofbox you can fit on the 5 but, please remember there is apart from size there is a weight limit of 75kg you can load on the roof of the MG5 LR so you need to weigh both the box and the roof rails together with what you intend to put in it and that might help you in deciding what size you can have.

I moved from a Grand CMax to an MG5LR - using the same Kamei 510 box I had on that car - External dimensions: 200cm (l) x 90cm (w) x 44cm (h). I have two Scotties in the boot.

I had the roof bars 80cm spacing on centre (front bar positioned about 1cm behind the front trim/rail seam) and an equal overhang of 60cm front and rear - boot opened fully with a few cm space.

HI LES
THANKS
YES I HAD A FARE FEW CARS BACK IN MY YOUNGER DAYS
10 OF THEM WERE MK2 ESCORTS (WISH I STILL HAD THEM NOW)
AT ONE STAGE I HAD 2 MK2 ESCORTS A CSPRI AND FIESTA VAN ON THE DRIVE AT THE SAME TIME
I USED TO BE A CAR VALETER FOR ROVER MG SO I COULD PICK UP PART EXCHANGES CHEAP RUN THEM UNTIL EITHER TAX OR MOT WAS ABOUT TO RUN OUT THEN SELL THEM ON NORMALLY AT A BIT OF A PROFIT AS I GOT THEM AT TRADE PRICE
I WILL TAKE THE WEIGHT OF THE ROOF BARS AND ROOF BOX INTO CONSIDERATION
THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY
HAPPY DRIVING

HI BIFFO
THANKS FOR YOUR INFO AND PHOTO
ITS SURPRISING HOW MUCH ROOM DOGS TAKE UP
THE ROOF BOX AND CAR LOOK WELL MATCHING IN BLACK
I HAD FOUND A WHITE ROOF BOX TO MATCH THE CAR BUT WAS UNSURE IT WAS TOO BIG (185x90x43)
BUT SEEING YOUR ROOF BOX ON YOUR CAR AND KNOWING THE MEASUREMENTS I THINK IT WILL FIT FINE
THANKS AGAIN

YES I THINK I MAY HAVE JUST SORTED ROOF BOX OUT AS BIFFO HAS A SIMILAR SIZE ONE ON HIS CAR TO WHAT I WAS THINKING ABOUT AND IT LOOKS GOOD
YES I REMEMBER PICKING A RED MINI1976 CLUBMAN UP FOR Β£25 REPLACING FRONT WING AND SELLING IT FOR Β£350 AFTER RUNNING FOR A FEW MONTHS
O THOSE HAPPY CHEAP CARS
NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD BE SPENDING Β£25,000 ON A CAR
NEVER MIND IT BEING ELECTRIC TOO πŸ˜‚
BUT I LOVE THE MG5
CHEERS

Side view to show length better - imagine this but 7.5cm less overhang (depending on recommended bar spacing - mine was already set up for 80cm spacing from CMax manual).

Tricky to say, only done 1500 miles now and roofbox journey was about 600 of those (275 miles each way).

I got 3.0 miles/kWh @ 65mph on ACC for 275 miles - so 171 mile range from 57kW usable battery. Slightly less than EV Database value of 190 miles for motorway use but car was fully loaded - so at a guess, the box and full load resulted in roughly a 10% reduction πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
