MG5 vs ZS EV

I’m sure we can feature this topic on the 17th Jan.

If there were 10 “things” to base a decision on in the ZS v 5 debate what would they be? I have listed the obvious...your help would be appreciated 😊

1. Price
2. Running costs/Range
Comparing the ZS Facelift with the sparse info on the 2022 MG5 Facelift
  • ease of access (particularly for those with mobility issues)
  • equipment (MG5 missing blind spot and rear cross traffic detection - and the panoramic roof)
  • aesthetics (everyone seems to own an SUV - but estates are cool 😎)

Also,

"the MG5 Electric will be offered with the MG iSMART connectivity system including the smartphone app as standard. "

"electric motor which produces 115 kW (156 ps) and 260 Nm of torque" as opposed to the "135 kW / 280 Nm electric motor" mentioned in the earlier article.
Initially, the website had listed iSMART Lite - is this still the case?

Interestingly, the manual for current model lists the MG5SR at 260 but MG5LR at 280 Nm - same 115 kW though

8.3 sec (0-100 km/h acceleration)*
11 kW AC Charger (3-phase fast charging)

It’s been mentioned on podcast (for the MG ZS facelift) that the UK will get a single phase 7 kW AC rather than the 11 kW 3-phase - suspect the MG5 will be the same.

Put bigger battery, better wheels job done. You don't give people an upgrade and say we solved the wheel spinning and increased the range by just making it slower.
Suspension tuning, bigger wheels, grippier tyres all cost money - might be a market for a Sport model with these features but that has cost implications to add an additional specification to manufacturer and consumer. It could happen if popularity increases through.

Risk is you make something you can’t sell by pricing out with your market sector / demographic.

Residuals
Boot space
Apps (remote charging, preheating)

I based my decision on:
do I fit in it? 6’2
does the wife like It?
will it fit my needs?
yes to all above.
Do all the extra features mean anything really?
No.

Decision - Bought ZS EV

The MG 5 is perfect for my needs. But if I could I would make the following wee alterations :-

1 much simpler vehicle

2 regen increased

3 drum brakes

4 much more rounded shape

5 availability as saloon, estate, van and pickup

6 use of some sustainable materials - eg wood framing

7 central circular info screen on dash

8 much cheaper circular lights

9 proper narrow steel wheels for traction through snow

10 simplify the name and badge by dropping “Garage”

These are my suggested minor changes 🤪
Really? Nah I’ll stick with team 5.
