I have now bought a Hypervolt 3 Pro wall charger and signed up to Octopus Intelligent Go. Understandably, Octopus controls the charging sessions, which is fine.

Mine is a MG ZS EV Mk2, which is not compatible with Octopus Go, so Octopus connects to the charger, which is compatible.

I now want to do a balance charge, which will charge the battery up to 100% and beyond. I've determined that I need to disable Smart Charging in the Octopus app, which I've done. I now need to schedule a full charge. Octopus still has control of the charger and I can't see how to set up the charge, other than disconnecting the charger from Octopus. The Hypervolt then acts as a dumb charger and starts charging the battery at full capacity. That seems a bit drastic, so is there a way of setting up the balance charge through Octopus?

Thanks

Hello Pete. Ok you've turned off smart charging & that is correct if the charger is listed as the first device. Mine is the same. You can now equalise in the correct way to 100% without Octopus switching off the charge as soon as the battery hits100%. As smart charging is now switched off Octopus is no longer in control of your charging. Using either the MG app (which I think will start an unscheduled charge) or an app that came with your wall box so you can initiate a continuous charge just by pushing a button, maybe on your phone. As long as you have taken the soc level down to just under the low battery warning the BMS will be in full control & will take care of the equalisation & recalibration of your range.

PS. Make sure your charge management settings are set to 100% charge or long journey mode in your cars infotainment system. Disable any previous charging schedules in you charger or car. Also, in your charger controls you may find a button that lets you "charge now". That the one you really want. Then just leave it alone untill the car stops the charge. The equalisation will be finished.

PPS. From memory I think you can use the Octopus app to start a BUMP charge once you have the car plugged in with Smart Charge off. The Bump charge button should show up. I use my Zappi MyEnergy app which can start a BUMP charge. That just carries on until the car stops the charge when equalisation is complete.

PPPS. Of course you can always use the cars own charge management in the infotainment screen to start the charge. It'll just keep going until the equalisation is finished.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I've done all that so we'll see what the result is in the morning.

I've noticed that with Octopus not charging, the Hypervolt charger starts charging as soon as the car is connected.
