Ohme home charger tripping

Hi, I put my car on charge last night and discovered this morning it had tripped out. I have tried several times now but when the car locks in the plug it trips out the consumer unit. It has been fine for the last five months. OHME charging point. Has anyone had this problem?
Thanks
Chris
Hi Chris, did you get to the bottom of this and find out why it was tripping? My car went in as it wasn’t charging at all, they changed the charge control unit in the car. My Ohme charger is now tripping when I charge overnight, first time it happened I put it down to the severe weather at the time.

There no reason that severe weather should cause it to trip.

When you say 'it's tripping' what is tripping - the charger itself with a message on the app or display? the MCB feeding it or an RCD device ? A photo of the consumer unit if it's an MCB or RCD that trips would be helpful.

Hi
I got my car back from mg last week after 10 weeks,Not sure what they changed but apparently had to wait for parts and tech advice from China. It got to the point I couldn't charge mine at a public charger without it tripping that's when I realised it was the car.

Tripping the RCD

Cheers Chris, just hope it isn’t the car again

same combination, no problems ever encountered here - as the Ohme unit is factory sealed, I suspect that you’ll need to contact the installer.

My problems with EV5 home charging began 6 months after buying the car in March 2021. Granny charger works fine, Pod Point unit tripped out.
So Pod Point came back, changed the guts of the box, changed the lead, blamed the Consumer Unit, blamed the RCD, all waste of time - so I told Pod Piont to Pod Off and installed a Rolec unit (which has a 13a socket incorporated).
The Rolec worked fine for about 4 months then it too started tripping out. Thankfully I could plug in the granny charger.
So I spoke with MG Crawley - they checked the car - nothing wrong. Then I contacted UK Power Networks. They put a test on the supply to my house. They said the supply was within their parameters. Then they admitted those parameters have recently changed (2023-2024) due to the extent of power demand nationally - Grid Overload so to speak - too many people living in the UK!!

So the Government allowed UKPN to change the rules, so they could allow a supply fluctuation without being penalised for not supplying enough electricity at peak times.

Will this ever change I asked? Who knows they said. Buy another car and see how that ones goes!

Tonight, I plugged the car into the Rolec unit. Green light comes on, then trips to Blue (non-Charging) I stood there for 15 minutes and counted how many times the Rolec tried to charge the MG5 ... answer 100 times... on then off.... (where's an axe when you need one!). So now its stay there with good old Granny once more.
Thankfully I plan to change cars next February - yes to another Electric Car. I wonder how likely it will be that they'll let me take the new one home for 2 weeks testing on my home charge unit, because I'm damed if I'm putting up with this malarky for another 4 years!

.. you just need a decent electriction who will spend the time to look at your system and diagnose your fault, sadly they are few and far between. If it helps I have 1960 wiring in my house (after a basic EICR), so have had the DNO (big earth on a new pole outside- droplink-TNCS?), smart meter fitter + EV charger fitter, all passed with ease
