Parasitic drain on 12V battery

If you did decide to go for replacement battery yourself, then maybe go for a battery that offers a five year warranty ?.
The Bosch / Exide units usually do.
This is better than the OEM battery that only comes with a 12 month warranty, which does not hold much faith in the factory batteries at all really 🤔.
Although we should even be considering this really on a new car after all !.
Surely, but depends when it was actually manufactured as opposed to registered may have been sitting idle for weeks in China or in your country waiting for orders. That would cause havoc with the 22v battery and may be the root causr

For anybody who maybe vaguely interested in knowing just how easy and quick it is to locate a parasitic 12 volt battery drain, here is a recent video of somebody who clearly knows what he is doing !.
This should take no longer than a couple days ( not weeks ) to diagnose.
Maybe recommend that the dealer watches this and applies it to your car !.

I don't think MG have a clue what's going on, Stoneacre are now entering the 6th week of trying to fix my car now, and still not fathomed out what's wrong with it. In total my cars been in an MG garage for 7 weeks and the car is only 11 weeks old 🤬
I can't believe I'm defending a car dealer but it's not all Stoneacre's fault. They have to do a diagnostic and send it to MG who will then approve the next step. Then after that course of action it's another diagnostic report to MG and so on. MG can take up to 48 hours to reply and then the garage has to find the time to fit it into their schedule.

I suggest you email MG customer services including your registration number asking if they can find out why its taking so long and politely expressing your disappointment in the amount of time it takes for MG to approve each step of the repair.

I had an ongoing saga with my MG4 and after emailing MG accusing them of micro-managing they approved the replacement of the part within a couple of hours. The full details can be found on the MG4 forum.

I can’t help but feel that since diagnosis computers became the norm in workshops, it has diluted the personal diagnostic skills of technicians these days.
Plug 🔌 it in and wait for the computer to give you the answer type of thing.
With cars being more like mobile computers themselves these days, there is less call for everyday technicians, more demand for full EV technicians with software expertise.
Dedicated auto electricians, are few and far between unfortunately.
I agree, the dealer is totally in the hands of MG but that does not help the customer one bit.
It’s no wonder it takes SO long just to sort out one problem on a single car !.
If the dealer had somebody who had the necessary skills to diagnose the problem, it would save MG a fortune long term.
The dealer will only carry out work that MG authorities because they are only concerned about who is paying the bill.
The length of time it takes to sort out the customers car, is secondary unfortunately.
What if you have six cars with issues, that you are still waiting for instructions from MG ?.
Cars taking up valuable car park space etc.

Yeah, I agree but how long is too long to fix a car. Head office say they have 8 weeks to write to me wether in my favour or not. That means the garage would have had my car 10 weeks in total. If it breaks down again am I to face another 10 weeks. I have lost faith in MG and to a point EV's, if it does get fixed I am seriously thinking of selling it.

Hi Big L did you resolve the problem?
I have had exactly the same problems as you have.
My first MGS5 had a problem with the boot, and then the 12v drain. The vehicle was replaced as the problem couldn't be fixed, and now on my replacement MGS5, again I have had a problem with the boot not always opening high enough (yes I do know how to reset the boot height, before anybody asks) and now this morning the 12v battery was flat again!

That's vey interesting and no, not fixed Stoneacre will have had the car 8 weeks this fri. That's 9 weeks total if you include the week at Arnold Clark. What garage did you go to as I might mention it to Stonacre.
Nathaniels in Swansea.
With my first MG, I think that they identified the problem to the T box. This was replaced and then a long wait for a technician from MG in China to login to the car to change some of the settings. This I was informed was done, but then they couldn't get the MG app to connect to the car!
I have only had my replacement car for 3 weeks and exactly the same problem. The garage are having a look at it tomorrow and as soon as I have an update I will let you know.
The dealership to be fair have been good, but very very very frustrating.

Same here Stonacre have been great, it's MG I'm not happy with. I thought MG was a good bet as they have been producing EVs for years. I know people with them and never had any issues. I wonder if they've had a dodgy batch of components and we're the unlucky ones.

It sounds like it. There was a batch of MG4s that had a problem with AC charging, mine was one of them and again with the passenger door button not working. It looks like MG has quality control problems with some of their suppliers.
