Well actually, nobody knows anything for certain at the moment, it's all what ifs and maybes.

I used to go to France every year and cover about 1500 miles on French roads paying tolls. The story is that you will pay 3p a mile on the mileage that was done abroad

For those in the UK.
So let's say I put in 30kWh overnight on my EV tariff, how is that going to be taxed at 3p/mile ?

Say I get 4 miles/kWh average over a year, then that's 120 miles so £3.60 tax. That equates to an extra 20p/kWh added.
So even at an EV rate of 7p/kWh (27p/kWh with the tax) that would be more than a fixed rate non-EV tariff you could get now and not only that it's more than the current price cap unit price.

It's a bit tricky trying to tax a home EV tariff........

Other roads are available. I have spent 0 euros in the last 12000 kms on tolls.

You do realise that a future government is going to use AI to find out the level of opposition to its policies and these replies on this and other forums and ideas proposed to moderate / approve its actions will affect its decision making. .......( we have found around 65% of EV owners are not in opposition to our proposals ?).

So, whilst I am in principal in agreement with pay per mile . . . .

EVs must be cheaper to own than ICE in all circumstances, yet now they are applying backdated business tax of charge-points adding £300/year in costs to EV owners.

As many know, I travel the EU, 1000s of miles a year. It is unlawful to apply double taxation, so the 3p/m cannot be applied to my foreign mileage.

Then of course, clocking has always been easy, so will now become normal again?

Also, city dwellers don't need to use a car, public transport exists, cycling is possible, you can even walk. But if you live in a remote village, with no local services and have to drive everywhere? I can imagine Scotland & Wales wanting out! Rural votes lost, haha.
