I'd be intrigued if by paying per mile, you'd get a discount when driving on poor condition roads?
Surely you'd pay more by having to drive around potholes. Around here at the moment there are multiple road closures resulting in some quite long diversions, another reason for rebate?

All cars will have electronic black boxes fitted just like the young generation have fitted for insurance purposes, so you will be tracked no matter which type of road you travel on , so unfortunately no escaping the big EV tax hike ? Big Brother will be watching you !!😉

They were discussing it on the radio and they were talking about you submit a best guess for your annual mileage, same as you do for insurance, if you go over you pay extra the following year, if you are under you get a refund.

It'll be easy for cars over 3 years old - they already have their milage recorded at the annual MOT.

Anyway it's in no way a 'tax on EV drivers'. It's just an alternative (and imo fairer) version of road tax.

Which is fine if they were getting rid of road tax but this is on top of it

For me, the absolute simplest way is check it at MOT time. Can't be much easier than that. And as for brand new cars, they go to an MOT station on year One and Two, but only for a Milage check.
Then from year 3 and onwards it's checked with your MOT. No need for camera's everywhere. No need for black boxes. No need to estimate your milage.
Etc etc. 🤷‍♂️ :)(y)
But hopefully it never comes about in the first place. 🤞🙂👍

Henceforth the odometer might become the ogodometer

Folk only going out every other day, so they keep the milage down. Cancelling long trips, etc etc. Ok that might be exaggerating things a bit, but you get me meaning. One thing is for sure, they are certainly doing their best. One way or the other, to take the pleasure out of motoring. Tax this, tax that. Speed cameras everywhere etc etc.
Don't let the Bastards grind you down.
Happy Motoring. 🙂👍

So will we pay for the miles driven on the fuel actually used by our vehicles?
Ice / half ‘n half/ full ev.
Or will “our fuel” continue to be price matched with gas to give us twice the joy of taxation.

In theory this would be paying for a service, you pay for a certain quality of service, so what minimum levels of service would you expect for your money?

Better quality road surfaces
The ability to travel at the max speed for the road for a majority of the trip
Reduction in other payments that contribute to the same funding pot

Ice drivers paying fuel duty should have that argument already
