Soaking up some free Octopus electricity :)

In my case, not doing so. The sun is shining. Even if I managed to use up all that solar (so lose the export payments) and use some actual mains power, I'd only make pennies at most, for all the faffing around that's required.

No idea. Maybe enlarging the photo (or I may have another one) would give the date of the car.

ETA: no, can't see anything in the other pic either. I wouldn't have thought it was as recent as 1989 though.

At first sight it looks like a case of inconsiderate parking, but as I was taking a snap the owner turned up, I said are you going to get it out of there do you think, the reply was I got it in there. A few minutes later and with a lot of forward and reverse movements, and an equal amount of steering wheel shuffling the SE was driving past with a wave from the driver.

I remember my Grandad had the same situation in his garage with his Viva HB. Only one day he went too far and drove into the vice. The resulting small V notch in the front edge of the bonnet was a constant reminder of the incident. More impressive though was the angle of vice handle that the Viva bent it to. He was never able to fully straighten the handle. If that happened today with the much thinner steel of modern cars, I'm sure the car would have come off much and the vice unscathed.
